I gravitate to vintage, non-brand pieces. I dislike having a design that can be seen on thousands of other people and antique and vintage pieces are generally pretty unique.

I love vintage, too! I have a lot of vintage brooches that I wear all the time. They feel so much sturdier than the stuff that's made today. Plus, I figure if something has already been pre-loved and survived, the chance of me breaking it is pretty slim. :)

I have many favorites:

From the older brands, I love Cartier, Graff, and the more whimsical designs from VCA. My favorite "old" brand (perhaps not as well known) would probably be Verdura.

For more unique vintage or estate pieces, I prefer the European jewelers Sabaddini, Mellerio and the English jeweler SJ Phillips.

Among independent designers, I love James de Givenchy/Taffin, Michele Della Valle, Nicholas Varney, Lydia Courteille.

Fire & Ice, Thomas Sabo, independent jewelers on ETSY.COM, and of course, the big names like DY.

I'm a big fan of mixing expensive with inexpensive. Sometimes things really go well together, regardless of price.
