It has taken me many years to figure out what works best for me at work. I don't feel comfortable with any premium designer bags with any kind of logo at all for work (it can bring unnecessary judgment, assumptions and attention) . I have also found that I overstuff and throw about my work bags. This has led me to sticking with contemporary designers (Kate Spade, Tory Burch, Lonchamp). I get larger bags with two shoulder straps. That way once I have destroyed them after six months I don't feel sad about it. This is just me though. Maybe you are gentle with your work bags like I am gentle with my weekend/night out bags. I would encourage you to become familiar with your new work environment and personal needs before you invest in a new bag. IMO

+1

There are plenty of people on here who carry whatever they like best, regardless of their workplace culture, but I'm not one of them. In my old job, overtly expensive bags and obvious logos were par for the course, but in my new one, they would stand out like a sore thumb and seem inconsistent with the "serious" culture and ethic. I still carry designer bags, including my Celine Edge (this garners the most attention), Celine Blades, Proenza Schouler PS1s, Mulberry Alexa, YSL Lover, and Marni trunk bag, but they don't stand out like some other bags do.

Congrats on the new job! [emoji173]️

For your first day, wear something low key or at least something that looks low key even if it's a premier brand so you can assess the situation.

I recently started a new job as well & wore my black LV Mahina leather purse the first day (outside of massive brand fans & LV SAs that bag *always* flies under the radar....). Quickly realized its a nobody cares/anything goes work environment & have been using my DA Speedy ever since [emoji106]

I do take a separate lunch bag bc I bought a really cute Tory Burch for Target one a few years ago that comes with a matching coffee thermos [emoji4]

I love my medium Givenchy Antigona in black. It's so chic and classic without giving the appearance of being flashy. I receive several compliments. I can carry everything including my iPad in it.

I've been on the search for a Tory Burch 797 though as I think it's likely to be a very functional bag.

Great advice.

OP, check to make sure if you have a secure place or locker to store your bag when you are not around. There's no point in bring an expensive bag if you can't lock it away safely.

Congrats on the new job!

Where I work, anything flashy/logo is a no-no. I also can't be bothered to baby or worry about whatever I carry and put lunch/water/papers or whatever I need in there. I typically carry Marc Jacobs bags which are surprisingly workhorses combined with buttery soft leather. The Paradise Rio is under-the-radar yet looks as good as the day I bought it. I also love the 1984, Metropolitan, and Charlie.

Givenchy (Antigona and Obsedia), Smythson (Panama, Berkeley, 1887, or other totes), and Tod's (D-cube, Joy, or the new Cape) also make some nice sized, discrete bags.
