I always do a 4 item check before I leave the house
1 Cell
2 chapstick
3 wallet
4 keys
Everything else in the bag is just extra.

My list consist of 5 essential items.
Wallet, keys, sunglasses, lipstick and cellphone. If I am wearing jeans then my cel goes in my pocket and if I am wearing my sunglasses I can say that I was able to reduce what I carry in my purse to just 3 essentials.
