What are the best (designer) beach bags?

I agree with @Sparkletastic, even if I had trillions I wouldn't be using a Deauville where all of those elements would ruin it in 10 minutes. Kinda wasteful, but that's just my opinion though!

They're not designer, (and are cloth) but I love my LL Bean Boat n' Totes with the zip tops. They are made in Maine, an incredible price, and cute. The canvas is ridiculously thick and durable. I spray them with Scotchguard just in case before use and use them to carry all the beach essentials without a care in the world that I'm wasting multiple digits of dollars if they get ruined. But they haven't. Hermes' Creative Director is a big fan.

Deauville wouldn't really be a normal pool/ beach bag for me either but on a couple occasions I was traveling and that happened to be what I had with me as personal item on plane and had to make due as needed something to hold items like book, hat, sunblock and that's all I had. It didn't get damaged as I cautiously kept on lounge chair in shade or covered with towel. Now I try to remember to pack a regular beach bag with me when I know I might need one.

How is everyone in the sand & ocean with bags like Chanel Deauvilles, Loewe straw bags or Dior Book totes??? :thinking:I celebrate style but I’m genuinely curious on how you’re comfortably using yet protecting the bags. Or is “beach bag” code for looking cute pool side or on deck in a controllable environment? TIA for insight!

I have a 12 year old Balenciaga Panier that I’ve slung in the sand, filled up with swimsuits and reef shoes and my sunscreen has coated the handles so many times… and it’s still going strong. I just have a wristlet for things that need to be secure. My mother just gave me her fabric Hermes Cannes bag that she used for fifteen years - again for schleping and tossing in the sand. Although that one was usually tossed on a beach towel

I just keep a few simple rules: empty it when back home, don’t get it wet, and avoid chlorine as if it was the devil. Always pick it up, never drag it.

Don’t know about the best but I have two that I would say is slightly different than the Loewe tote and I would say ok price points.

1. Jacquemus basket tote Le panier soleil, not the easiest to carry around as it doesn’t flatten when carrying on the shoulder. Also due to the suede handles and they do get dirty easily if you’re sweating and wearing sunscreen, luckily I was able to get this removed with some suede cleaning products. I still recommend it as it looks so good!

Mine is the older version where the two straps don’t have the strap fastener and and closure strap

2. Marni Raffia effect tote bag, a nice pop of color. This one is lighter than the basket tote and has a zip picket and bag closure so a bit more security.

I’ve recently got a beach bag, thought it was a fun colour, I like the shape and handle drop, so goes comfortably over my shoulders and also not wide so hopefully wont get pick pocketed from behind. It’s really light weight and I can fold it so easily goes into carryon. The size I think is spot on, not too big or small. Fits all of my essentials. If using for beach and not just poolside and I need to take a towel then I have room for a thin beach towel from Dock and Bay which fits in easily. Also I’ve just purchased a cheap light weight oversized bag from Mango, again will take no space in my luggage. It has a zip and can be used for just in case days where I might need to carry more than usual.
