Well, let me just say I don't think it depends on age. Depends on financial circumstances and love/interest in a brand. *shrug*
Definitely! I’m just very curious about age demographics too when it comes to brands (assuming financial circumstances and love/interest in Hermes as a brand are constants hypothetically). Some brands have age demographics that commonly skew a bit younger or older, but Hermes kind of seems all over the place. Same with Chanel.

Absolutely agree with this. My first purchase from Hermes was a decade ago, right out of college with a singular scarf purchase for my now husband. I made another gift purchase in 2020. Did those purchases start my journey? If the journey is referring to racking up pre-spend for a QB, then definitely not. But if it's just for developing a love for the brand, then yes it did start my journey.

Now in 2023, I feel like I've reached the financial stability I need to justify purchasing Hermes regularly for myself. And if I didn't feel that way, I likely would have continued to make small, special purchases like I had in the past, again because I love the brand.

Depends on money. Many years ago (before instagram and influencers) we had someone here who was a teenager with croc birkins, among other Hermès bags. Of course it was understood she bought them with her family's money but the way she participated in the forum you knew that she was genuinely interested in Hermès as well, the craftsmanship, leathers, bag styles, etc.

Age doesn't matter, I think.

I couldn't agree more. I think when I hear "journey" *shudder* I think of all the posts I read about "what was your spending ratio to get an offer" yadda yadda.
About 16 years ago I bought a Constance belt, then saved of for an Evelyne PM..then some enamel and leather bracelets and 4 years ago I bought a vintage B35..then An Evelyne GM. A lot of time has passed and more interest in craftmanship. I don't think age has anything to do with it (IMO)

Depends on money imo. I never even perused the Hermes forums when I joined TPF over a decade ago. It was just so far out of my league as far as where I was at in life. But now in my 40’s, no money concerns (although I am still a bargain/resale shopper haha), I am happy to have started the Hermes journey last year. It has always aligned with our equestrian aesthetic, so it’s fun to see the equine related touch and history that goes along with many pieces, and really feels relatable to our lifestyle.

There's no right age.

I was bought a CDC cuff age 15 - I wore it constantly, but didn't buy myself anything else until 2009 which was a scarf.
Agree here, there is no right age.
Family/parents finances can impact spending & exposure to high end designer labels
There are certain areas of the country where owning a piece of luxury is just more prevalent
than in other parts of the country where money is no object at any age.

There is no specific age. My personal opinion is you should start when you are able to afford it. H is not cheap..and it's not a secret. Especially nowadays that prespends have become exceedingly high..unlike many moons ago where SA expectations/"competition" with others, and the amounts for prespending involved are not like today's. It is pointless to love, appreciate, and adore craftsmanship from a practical and realistic standpoint if you cannot afford it or if you are just pretending to afford it..and be saddled with debt. H..or any other fine thing..is truly wonderful having if you have peace of mind as well. Nothing really impressive with having champagne taste on a beer budget.

100% agree, maybe 110% agree with you. I would go further and say if H comes at a sacrifice to other things that are more essential - paying off mortgage, increasing savings, paying off loans, saving for college funds - then you are probably too young. The pre spend and spend to acquire a birkin when your net worth is like $500k is probably not a financially prudent move.
