Hello all!

I apologize if this isn't the right place to post. I am new to Chanel. Last week, I went to my local boutique with my sister (I am in SoCal) to purchase the black caviar classic flap in medium with golden hardware. The saleslady who assisted me said that they did not have any in stock and she did not know when they would be available. She took down my information and put me on a "waitlist" but could not tell me how many people are on it. It has been almost two weeks now. When should I expect to hear back? Should I call the boutique and follow up? I am not sure of the ins and outs of waitlisting at Chanel. I assumed this bag would be easy to find since it seems to be their most classic style. The saleslady said she could not give me an estimate of when they would have the bag back in stock. I am wondering if I am in for weeks of waiting, months... a year?? I know I could probably call around to find one available, but I really wanted my first purchase to be at my local boutique so that I could begin building a relationship with a Chanel salesperson!

Any insight you have into the availability of this bag or waitlisting procedures would be very appreciated!!

My experience is by no means vast. I’ve just found that their selection is meh and they aren’t really friendly or helpful. I live in Memphis with no Chanel and have had faaaar better success just working with an SA from Nordstrom.

From what I know, before the lockdown, Chanel boutiques usually got delivery of classics monthly (not all the sizes) it might be different now because of the pandemic production is slow... I always think boutiques are your best chance as department stores always have such a long list and not receive the classics nearly as often ;)

Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Do you know how waitlists work in general? I provided my credit card info when I was waitlisted. Is this normal procedure? Will they charge me as soon as they get the bag in or will I be called and asked if I still want it first? Sorry for the questions. I should have asked in store but I was so excited I completely forgot!

If it's a popular item you might as well start contacting several Sa's so you're on their radar. Repeat purchase customers will get priority over new customers. I know to ask directly if there's multiple customers waiting for the same item not to bother going on that waitlist. I was in a stand alone boutique when I caught a glimpse of the waitlist and I didn't bother to leave my cc information.

If you want the bag ASAP, I agree with others, try to get yourself on the wait list for several stores to give yourself the best chance. Even for a popular style, one store may not get much quantity, and repeat customers will likely get priority. Especially with the pandemic, there may be shipment delays so it's hard to say how long it may take..

When I inquired about a bag that was available at Costa Mesa via Chanel Customer Service they let me know that this particular store is very inconsistently open & closed (bc of the pandemic).. They said the store was flooded with requests and are slow to go through the backlog (even when they're open), basically telling me to avoid this store

Oh no, really? That's discouraging to hear. That boutique is the closest to me! I wanted to start off my Chanel journey at my local boutique but I may just have to branch out. I did have to wait in line for quite a while before being let into the store. Maybe this location is just exceptionally busy. Thank you for your help!

You should call back. I find SAs are more likely to help people to follow up often so they know that they are serious buyers and not just "oh I'll put my name down for the sake of it." Chanel usually gets new stock in twice a week, so I wouldn't hesitate to follow up once or twice a week.

You can also ask if other stores have them and you can have one shipped to you.
