Yes.

To add to this discussion, I was offered a Kelly at resale that had double rings, one of which someone had taken off with, apparently, a bolt-cutter, to make it a single ring bag (it was a rare spec or I would not have considered it). My boutique warned me that this repair would have to be submitted to Paris and might not be approved, so I did not buy the bag

Thanks so much QuelleFromage! Yeah I def wouldn't buy a bag that's had it's double ring bolt-cut either.

Thanks for sharing that @QuelleFromage - any insight as to why Paris might not approve? Just on the basis of 'non H craftsman's work'?

No insight at all. My boutique was very cautious about it and didn't want to give any assurances, but yes, my assumption would be it would have been someone's judgment call since the bag had been deliberately altered, although nothing like stitching or coloration was done. It was a very pretty bag in a rare spec and really too bad that this had happened. I suppose the original owner did not use a strap and wanted a cleaner look (from a couple feet away you could not tell what had been done). This was a couple years ago.

Thanks for sharing. Can really feel your pain on this! Hope the bag has found a good home in any case, sounds like it was hard to leave.

The single ring/double ring on the Kelly changed across the board (bags from 2000 and forward, supposedly some bags from late 1999) so wouldn't be dependent on leather, but on date.

Same, I don't like the double rings they look like an add on which they are really.
If I were lucky enough to do a SO kelly I would do it with one ring and wear strap attached to that just like you.

Actually I don't think you can order a Kelly with single rings anymore: I asked when I ordered mine and they said no. But things may have changed since, so do let me know if you manage to do it. I'm only buying vintage Kellys for this exact reason, well also I prefer leathers which are not in production anymore so I only have the pre-owned route.

I think we have the same taste..most of the leathers I like dont seem to be available in the bag/size colour I would want and its just wrong to my mind if you cant specify having only one ring on a SO Kelly-I'd never feel happy with 2 rings..mind you SO anything is a pipe dream for me anyway :biggrin:
