I have three bags that I am exceptionally curious about. One belonged to my Mom (navy envelope), one belonged to dh's grandmother (black evening clutch), and one I bought in early 1990s (maybe late 80s, brown saddlebag style). None is obvious in style name, though one has a designer name in it. How do I learn more about these bags? I'm particularly wanting to get info on the one that belonged to my Mom as all her purses are gone, except this one, so it's an important part of my baby collection.

I've googled myself to death; I've read blogs; I've lurked at ebay. Hints and ideas needed and appreciated.

Yes, please post pictures. And the designer name on the one. I collect and sell vintage bags, maybe I can help. I also have a few vintage handbags books I can look through.

it'sanaddiction, I have a few as well, that I've been desperately trying to find out about for years and never seem to get anywhere. Would you be so kind as to look at mine as well?

This is a great idea for a thread... Maybe even a sub-forum.... Im sure there are a lot of ladies who have mystery bags.
Good luck, I hope you find out some details

Here's a link to one of the threads where I inquired about my "old girls". Haven't had any luck with a response yet.

I guess I missed the last thread, sorry. They are all wonderful collectors bags! The first three bags are all popular vintage designers. The last one, I've never seen. I looked in my purse books and my ladies compacts books with no luck. Sometimes the lettering is hard to read, are you sure on the spelling of Tarkor?

The Bienen Davis bag looks to be from the 40's.
The Dofan of France from the 50's.
Koret from the 70's.
I'd guess the last one from the 30's or 40's.

If they were mine, and I wished to sell them, I would ask somewhere between $50 and $100. Except for the last bag, maybe $125 - $150? Maybe more. (Book values are more, but this is what I could sell them for.)

Here is some info on the designers:

Thanks so much, it'sanaddiction! You are a gem! Looks like a great book you have there! I checked my last little bag and it indeed does say "Tarkor Made in Spain" The Tarkor" is in very fancy printing. Perhaps Old English font (?) The inside is lined in satin with a braided satin handle. It is such a very fancy little bag! - Complete with ostrich feather puff and talc powder (as I mentioned). I can just picture some extremely "dressed" lady carrying it to an opera or some such event. I did see a mention of a "Tarkor" handbag somewhere at one time, but I can't remember where or when.
Love that blue patent Koret of yours too!

oooh, i'm going to bookmark this thread. i'm very into vintage although i'm really clueless. i recognise koret but i know nuts about the name. i first saw their bags on retrodesignerdeals.com

there're a few coupla names i 'recognise' but still know nothing about. i recently acquired a pair of camel Capezio boots from Etsy. Etsy's occupying ALOT of my time lately :p

Thanks so much for being willing to help me. I appreciate it!

Here's my Mom's purse. It's a navy, and I included the one overlit shot to really show th grain of the leather. If this helps, Mom lived in Massachusetts or Connecticut when she likely got it. She loved shopping Filene's and Lord & Taylor.

I'll add pics as they (SLLLLLLLLLLOWLY) load on photobucket.

My own late 80s or early 90s purchase. I lived in a rural area with a very lame mall, so there is the high likelihood that it is from Wilson Suede and Leather as no place else carried leather bags in any variety.
