I want to gift my lady friend a well made small handbag that's made in high quality vegetable tanned leather and would like to keep the branding and brand premium to a minimum if possible.

One example I found was Chester Mox, which appears to be basically what is reported to be Hermes-like quality at discounted prices (but still expensive, because it's handmade). Frank Clegg is another, but their bags do not appear very attractive to the lady friend.

Is there any lady's handbag that you'd recommend that combines good quality vegetable tanned leather without significant branding?

(Hooray! my first thread on this forum)

Thanks for the recommendation? Is there a place where I can view examples? He appears to have a website but it is focused on leather craft pedagogy.
You can look at his portfolio online, Instagram; there’s also a thread here on TPF if you make a search. You can fire off an email and I’m sure he will answer you promptly.

I love Il Bisonte for their vegetable tanned leather. Totally different (lower) price point from the brands mentioned so far.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
For a woman who likes the small Lady Dior's and Chanel Boy Bag, will these designs fancy her?
I thought I was being creative, but this might be too creative for my lady friend, who seems to be more into the typical stuff.

Take a look at Marco Massaccesi's Zhoe and Aura designs. Both are classic flap bags and if you elect lambskin lining, that takes the luxury factor up a notch. His Handmade Vachetta is definitely Veg Tanned but you can ask him for a list of all the Veg Tanned leathers he stocks. Marco responds to all emails personally and he will be happy to give you leather/color suggestions based on the info you provide to him. He usually does a Black Friday discount that you may be able to take advantage of.

It depends on why she likes them. Bags selections are very personal. Some just want any designer bag. Others might be selective on vegetable tanned leather over aniline. Another person might want hand-stitching. Someone else might be driven nuts by an unfinished edge. Lining selections can be across the board. The two bags you mention are structured and boxy, so she might like the shape. If you want to see how deep preferences can run, there's a thread in here "What is your one thing that you absolutely hate about a bag" that lists people's pet peeves.

Find out her preferences. If there's a particular style she's carrying that catches your eye, mention a detail and see what she likes about it. Ask her what she doesn't like. Then try to select based on that.

This isn't what you want to hear, but: if she wants a Lady Dior or a Chanel Boy, another bag is unlikely to satisfy those desires. She'll probably appreciate the gesture if you buy her a different high quality bag, but it won't be a replacement for the iconic bags she likes
