I was told by the BF that I had free reign in picking out my gift.. Which equalled to me going a little overboard aka dragging him shopping for about 2 days in a row. The end result was a cashmere/silk shawl from Hermes and a Tiffany's DBTY yellow gold .49 carats. The total was approximately $4600. I love both but I wanted to see what you guys thought of my selections - good or bad? Any other recommendations? I almost feel like I should just tell him to save the money!

Just some background on what I did look at - I went to Cartier and tried on the white gold love bracelet to stack it with my yellow gold but it looked too plain without diamonds. Then I went to VCA and I was looking into the Fleurette in yellow gold but have been told that it is sold out in the states. We also looked at watches and I guess I just wasn't feeling them either.

I guess the main issue is that for the past few years - I've fallen out of love with Tiffany's ever so slowly, especially when they rolled out their cheaper line. The value of the Tiffany brand just isn't there as much for me. But I do love the necklace. It's simple and beautiful. Is the price justifiable though? I know you can get diamond necklaces anywhere but I haven't found a design like theirs. Anyways, love to hear what you guys are thinking!

I have several Hermes GM shawls and wear them a lot. More so then their scarves. I think the shawls are wonderful/useful!
I don't own a Tiffany's DBTY necklace but it sounds lovely.

Aw, that sounds so romantic! I think that's a fabulous pair of presents, and the experience of going together and enjoying the environment is part of the fun.

That said, if you wanted to, you probably could find a DBTY style necklace with a higher carat weight for less money (WhiteFlash makes a nice version: link here; http://www.whiteflash.com/diamond-pendants/whiteflash-by-the-yard-diamond-necklace-449.htm). For pieces that are more classic, I'll admit I usually succumb to the siren song of the bigger bling. But, frankly, if you stick with what you've got, I doubt you'll regret it!

Congratulations of having such a generous BF! Personally, I wouldn't get a DBTY anything at Tiffany's prices. The style is available elsewhere for cheaper so I would probably get it from one of those places.

That being said though, if you love it and are happy with it then that's what matters and it wasn't a waste. :smile1:

But I thought Tiffany always had sterling silver?? :confused1::confused1: In middle school and high school, the "cool" or "rich" girls had the SS toggle bracelets or the peretti open heart pendants.
