How were the Diamonds at Good Old Gold? I didn't know they were an online store . Ive seen their youtube videos and they seem really informative. I will have to see if they deal GIA Triple Excellent Diamonds or AGS or what cert brands they usually use. They seem to get really good reviews also.
They have some really beautiful diamonds, but it comes down to what you love in-person. I was convinced that I was going to choose one particular Good Old Gold stone. They were so wonderful to work with. This particular stone was great on paper, but in person it just didn't "do it" for me. In person, the Whiteflash stone just had the wow factor that I was looking for. I do remember Whiteflash being kind of a pain in the butt for DH to work with. He had Leon Mege do the setting and I don't know the details, but he had some issues. My ring is fab, though! :-)

Thats awesome it turned out fabulous ! Do jewellers seem to mind when you buy the diamond somewhere else and just come to them for the setting? I had one guy tell me he wouldn't warranty it the same.

I don't remember it being a huge issue as it's pretty common. It may be more of an issue with a local store, but I'm sure that there are a fair amount of Whiteflash and Good Old Gold buyers sending their diamonds to Leon.

This is the setting I really like BTW, what do you all think?

Is this a Tacori setting? If so, you can contact either BGD or Whiteflash to see if they can source the setting from Tacori for you, when you consider buying a diamond from BGD or WF. This way, you deal with only one vendor without having to worry about shipping Diamond or setting and insurance cost.

Leon Mege is a great jewelry maker. I would use his service only if I want to buy his setting. In that case, I would have the Diamond shipped to him for setting.

As for your question about the particular Tacori setting, I think it is what you like that counts. Everyone has different taste. I, for example, prefer simple solitaire setting for a large diamond, or a 3-stone or halo setting for medium size Diamond. Besides, an elaborate setting with many melees may cost more. I prefer to put more money towards the Diamond, so I can get the biggest possible Diamond.

Awesome thanks for the advice a bunch! . I definitely will look at whiteflash as everyone seems to say good things about them and they also talk have a whole section dedicated to gia triple excellent diamonds. reviews I read of Leon Mege on the whitefish site are also spectacular.

As for the setting I see what you mean about a solitaire highlighting a single big diamond better now that I think about it. Also I have heard about an issue with halos where the little diamonds fall out allot ...? Anyone have any experience with that?

thanks again for all the replies everybody

The smaller diamonds may fall out over time depending on various factors, with the biggest factor being the quality of the setter. Over the lifetime of a ring there is a high likelihood one of the smaller stones will fall out, but the cost to replace is cheap, so if you like that look I would not worry to much about it. The key is working with good people so they don't fall out to often.
