A friend of mine just bought an engagement ring for his gf/ now fiancé and the diamond is literally the brightest rock Ive ever seen. He shopped around a ton and also checked out reviews and apparently he got the ring from an online store. I don't know if id ever shop online but I was so impressed by the fire and sparkle.

From what I have read they are GIA certified and have excellent scores in their cut, polish and symmetry. I will probably be getting engaged myself in the next year and I if I can afford it I would I am definitely thinking of getting a ring with triple excellent diamonds. Reviews seem to be awesome really good as well.
does anyone have any experience shopping for high end diamonds?

Also how do you feel about shopping online for a diamond?

Hello Will! I am! I bought majority of my jewelries online and I haven't encountered a single issue. It all goes down to the store you choose so my advise is make some research first before deciding to buy if the store is legit and sells real diamonds and jewelries.

Which online stores do you usually use of you don't mind me asking?

Anyone else here shop online especially higher end stuff? What are you favourite places?

Ok sorry about that.

Back to the original questions then. Has anyone every bought a diamond like this? a GIA Triple Excellent or other comparable?

I bought a small round Diamond online from Blue Nile with GIA triple excellent spec. Still, the so called top spec does not guarantee top brilliance and fire. The GIA spec is a little loose, so some of the GIA triple excellent stones may be borderline, and have some amount of leakage. I used AME's cheat sheet to confirm my triple excellent stone was indeed a good candidate. Since it was a relatively small Diamond, about 0.35 ct, I took the chance without having seen any Idealscope and ASET images to confirm. Luckily, the Diamond turned out to be a winner.

I also found another GIA triple excellent round Diamond from an online store with cut parameters within the ranges of AME's cheat sheet. Since this time the Diamond was much bigger, I had my online jeweler Whiteflash call in the stone and take Idealscope and ASET images to confirm top brilliance and fire.

In summary, one cannot know for sure if a GIA triple excellent round Diamond is indeed top cut without Idealscope and ASET images. One can use AME's cheat sheet (which works for round diamonds only) to screen out round Diamond candidates which have a high probability of top performance.

Ok thanks for the info.

Another thing I've been hearing allot about is the whole idea there are some lower quality certifications that you really can't trust.
Like you might see a diamond in a store and it says the parameters are one thing but they are actually lower.
This is why I am looking at GIA triple excellent diamonds or other reputable ones cause they seemed to have really good reviews on their credibility .

No matter how trustworthy the jewelers are, I only trust GIA or AGS certificates, for diamonds over 0.30 carat. For smaller diamonds or melees, there are usually no certificates due to relatively high cost of certification. In this case, I trust only Bian Gavins' signature melees and Whiteflash's ACA melees.

I have a Whiteflash diamond in my e-ring that's their version of ideal cut (ACA). It's AGS certified which I prefer to GIA. I have a GIA ideal cut diamond necklace that isn't quite as sparkly; I've heard that EGL is not good so I would avoid that one.

Don't just take "triple excellent" as a final word. Learn about the angles and why angles and percentages make a difference in light return. I suspect the stone your friend purchased had a pretty decent set of numbers-at least compared to other stones you've seen.

There is a cheat sheet to narrow down stones but specific angles work better with others.

One thing I want to ask is how you all feel about those in house certs where the jeweller will do the certification themselves? Isn't that not as credible as an outside party like GIA?

Yea AGS reviews seem to sound pretty good however I have heard about some issues with the clarity rating being a bit off... Like SI2s actually being more like I's having some visible inclusions ...

This is why it's so important to have a third party look at the stone before you buy it. We had diamonds shipped from Whiteflash and Good Old Gold, then had them evaluated by an appraiser in our city. He also grades for GIA. At the end of the day, the Whiteflash ACA sparkled like nothing else. I didn't have the greatest experience with Whiteflash's customer service with doing this, but I'm so happy that I did for piece of mind.

How were the Diamonds at Good Old Gold? I didn't know they were an online store . Ive seen their youtube videos and they seem really informative. I will have to see if they deal GIA Triple Excellent Diamonds or AGS or what cert brands they usually use. They seem to get really good reviews also.
