Tri-coloured/ bi-coloured bags pricing

I placed an SO yesterday for a 35 cm Kelly in black box and tabac and can confirm that there is no upcharge (which is really surprising considering it's Hermes!) There are two ways to order it. The first is to have the bag lined and piped in a contrast color, and the other option involves a contrast color or colors for the gussets, handle, straps and piping. Either way, it's the same price as a solid color bag.

I opted for the first version with only the piping and lining in tabac, as I want it to look fairly understated.

The sales manager will place the order in early July when she goes to Paris. She assured me that I'll get it but, of course, could not promise a date - just that I'll get it eventually. Her parting statement, "God only knows what the price will be when it does come in!" That's a bit scary, but I think that the cost and the wait will be worth it to have a custom-made bag. I love to think about some talented leather craftsman in Pontin working on MY bag!

^^ Congrats!

Thought I should check with your colour seletion though. Tabac-Camel comes in Clemence only. A box Kelly is lined with chevre. And bi-colour or tri-colour bags cannot have mixed leathers.

Thanks for the warning, mrssparkles. I placed the order with the SM, but I'll give her a call on Monday and revise if necessary. I would have thought she would have known, as I asked her that question, knowing that the box bags are lined in chevre.

Since you're a veritable storehouse of Hermes knowledge, what would you suggest as a substitute. I thought I'd love the neutral combination of black and camel. I'll have to poke around on the reference threads but would certainly appreciate your guidance.

in your case, since your main body is black box, you should find a contrast piping in box leather too but of a color close to camel (depending on availability). I was told you can't have say black box body with clemence piping. The inside lining is less of any issue. They would just match the chevre color to the piping.

Thanks archangel. I looked through the reference threads and couldn't really find a color close to tabac/camel in box. I did see a gorgeous black box and what appeared to be camel Kelly on the first page of the bi-color/tri-color bags reference thread, but the color wasn't identified, so I'm in an Hermes quandry at this point :crybaby:and would certainly welcome the experts' help. I thought I might like etoupe as a substitute, but I don't think that color is made in box either. I have a marron (close to etrusque) 35 cm Birkin, a rouge garance 35 cm in togo, and a 35 cm ostrich Bolide in gold, so I thought I'd love a Kelly in the smooth and shiny black box with a neutral accent. (My first Hermes bag was a Kelly in rouge H box, but I sold her and have always been sorry that I did.)

I'm really surprised that the SM didn't catch this, as she was the one writing up the order, and we even talked about the chevre lining. I'm going to give her a call on Monday and see what she suggests. Unfortunately, the Atlanta store isn't always particularly tidy with their leather book either and can't always come up with each and every leather/color sample.

Thanks for sending up the red flag, and I'll certainly welcome any and all suggestions.

Here's Grands Fonds's super rare Beige Boxcalf Kelly. (from the Reference Section)

lilyhermes, I don't think there is anything as close as Tabac-Camel in Boxcalf. Have you seen Beige Boxcalf? You may want to consider it as an alternative ...

Nor do I, MrsS. The beige could be a possibility, but I thought that they aren't doing beige at the moment, and I could not find it on the color/leather availability list (of course, that dated to September 2007, so possibly something has been added since that time.)

I looked at parchemin, as that's listed as an available box leather, but parchemin isn't available in chevre. I looked at etoupe, which is available in chevre but not in box. It certainly is disheartening to say the least, particularly after getting truly excited about the order!

I looked at everyone's listed bags in parchemin, but since every photo was different from the next, I still have no idea what the true color is (back to the boutique for me I guess before SM leaves for Paris on Saturday!) But, even if I love it, it's not available in chevre - groan.

Raisin would be a possibility, as it's available in both box and chevre, but I kind of have my heart set on the black & camel/beige combination or black and taupe.

I guess I can hope that they may bring out etoupe in box for fall winter/2008.

If you have further thoughts or suggestions, do please let me know. Many thanks.

^^ Choose the piping you want, that is available in Boxcalf. Don't worry about the chevre lining. Just specify that you want matching lining. The craftsman will find a matching lining to your piping. You need not worry about that.

I think piping in Beige (Box) may not be an issue, because only very little will really be used.

Go to the eBay thread in the Hermes Shopping sub-forum where I had posted a listing of Gris Pale Boxcalf. Would you like your SO to have Black and Gris Pale?

Is there really Parchemin in Box? Didn't realise that.

I truly did find it on the updated list (unless I'm hallucinating - it's about 4 a.m. here in Atlanta!)

What's your personal impression of parchemin? Pretty? Attractive with black. More attractive than etoupe? Oh, I really need to go to bed and stop thinking about a SO gone awry.:p

Oh, I love you mrssparkles!:yahoo:I was feeling that I was being put through Hermes hell having to find a color available in both box and chevre (not a lot of them I can tell you that.) This will make it a bit easier, hopefully. I'll certainly look at the Gris Pale you suggest, as there simply aren't many light colors available in box.

I think I'll still trot back to the boutique to consult the 20-lb. leather book and consult with the SM one more time . . . and pick a couple of alternatives just in case.

Thanks again for your invaluable advice.

You were definitely right mrssparkles (not that I ever doubted you), and you certainly seem to know more than the SM. I did reselect the beige for the piping and lining. I thought it would be too light and too creamy, but in looking at the sample, it's seems to be a paler version of etoupe, so I'm happy and will begin the long wait process. (Gave them a second option too just in case - Noisette.)

Thanks again for your valuable advice.
