Hello everyone, dear ladies and perhaps gentlemen  I am requesting the help of this group as I am looking to get opinions, advices and reviews about wearing a trench coat for guy.

I am 28 years old man and already have a beautiful sand/beige classic Sandro trench coat that I bought one year ago but sometime I am not feeling very comfortable as I am not sure what people might think... of course I know I shouldn't worry about what people say and do what I want and like but still I like the idea to ask for recommendations.

Recently my mother told me (from and about one picture of my social media) that I looked a bit weird with this trench coat (she said she doesn't like my posture and said the coat on this picture doesn't flatter me well). Not sure exactly... I got a bit embarrassed and didn't know how to interpret it ? Was it just the picture not great or was it about the coat itself? I remember back when I bought the coat my mother didn't say anything bad but said it was indeed a beautiful purchase and I must take care carefully of it.

So dear ladies what's your opinion about men wearing a trench coat? Do you think a man looks good/attractive and it suits him well? Would like your boyfriend /partner /husband be wearing a trench ?
Does the trench coat still is in trend ?

Today I don't see many men wearing... it seems that only mostly women waer it which lead me to think perhaps this coat is not so popular anymore and most of people would think it is a weird coat?

When I bought it back last year I thought it looked awesome and very elegant. I loved the versatility of a trench that can be worn with different style and look.

Like I said I am a 28 y/o man who likes to wear shirts, leathers shoes/boots and some trainers ... I like to waer casual, smart casual and formal clothes/ outfits.

Here I post for you some outfits wearing the trench. 20210903_130201.jpg

I'm not sure if it's the way you wear it (tightened with a belt and buttoned it) that makes the look a bit more feminine. The picture with the coat not tightened or buttoned with a scarf looks fine for me.

In addition, the fact that the trench is just too tight for your figure has also contributed to it. Especially at the shoulder and chest level.
I've seen men wearing trench coats but usually, it looks a bit oversized because most of the time they have a vest inside.

Thank you very much for your answer and your feedback. About the size I have just followed the saleswoman advice and observation. I tried M size and she said it looked a bit to loose on my shoulder while the S size (which I got) looked perfect even with a jumper underneath. I felt also more comfortable with the S size. Perhaps the pictures I shared don't give a proper look of how it fit ?

If it look a bit too feminine tightened and buttoned up then how should I wear it ? Especially when it is a bit cold and want to close it ?

I think it fits you very well! I also think it's a great-looking trench, and suits you. If I saw you on the street I would think your look is very smart and stylish.
One thing about a trench is that it is generally only worn when there is a risk of rain. It's not an everyday coat. I don't think it's worth it to buy another version as yours is perfect for the purpose.

I think it looks perfect on your shoulder, you can tell it fits you and not hanging over. I personally do not like the look with the sleeves pushed up (on women, this looks great) but my favorite look is the last one where it's very relaxed looking and a nice scarf thrown on...more effortless if that makes sense. It's a great trench and I don't think it's out of style at all...especially a tan trench-never goes out of style!!

Thank you for your answer! I really appreciate it  my aim with these pictures was to show a bit of what I usually wear what my style looks like in order to give you a better idea.

Where I live it is a bit strange as I haven't seen any man wearing a trench, so far I have only see woman. That is why sometimes I am questioning myself if the trench coat is really a must for men or if I am looking out of style or weird :P I mean I know a trench coat is a very visible coat and that doesn't unnoticed.

I agree that wearing a scarf in addition add some chill/effortless and relaxing look. While when the coat is buttoned and tightened it might look a bit more strict and formal. Once again I am not pretending to know perfectly what are the standards to wear a trench.

One last thing is about women. I am wondering what they thought about a guy who wear a trench coat as I almost see zero guy with a trench in the street.

Thanks for replying ! That's very kind from you.

Sometime ago I was somehow questioning myself if I should sell this one to get a proper Burberry trench coat. Now the question is more about how good it looks and how well it suits for a man to wear a trench coat.

You right that's not an everyday coat. I am mostly wearing it for special occasions or when going out for dinner, travel or when I want to look smart. When I thought buying a trench coat I thought it would elevate my outfits and look.

To be honest I think it looks fine.

Do you have a photo of how it looks from the back?
That way, it's easier to see how well it fits your shoulders and if it is too tight or loose for the shoulder/back.

I think it depends on where you live. Trench coats are more common in Europe, especially in the UK.
In the US, not so much at all unless one lives in the North East such as New York.

Trench coats are definitely a tailored look with defining features that does elevate an outfit or give a more sophisticated feel to a look. However, they were originally created for a much more practical sense, the cold foggy, drizzly weather of London (which is the majority of the weather year-around).
For me who has lived in several countries, if the weather was cold and windy, I think that's an everyday day coat.
Currently I am in Southern California, so my trench coat is not being put to good use at all haha. If I lived in a place that was colder, I would definitely invest in a Burberry trench.

Overall, I do not think it looks weird. Currently, the trend of fashion is not looking particularly fancy or dressed up, but more casual and over-sized ,so that's why it may throw people off a bit. But as long as it fits well, is comfortable, then I think it looks good!

Maybe it give you all a better and clearer idea how the coat fit. It also depends a lot on how strong I tight the belt of the trench.

I am from France so it should be okay to see trench coat where I live in winter and autumn but like said I have seen only women. Some women coworker wear the trench too but I am the only man I know so far lol

I also remember asking some friends of mine their opinions to know if they would wear a trench coat. They all said and agreed that the coat looks great and sophisticated, but they would wear themselves it as it is not their style.

You look fabulous! Your trench fits perfectly!

I think your next coat purchase might be a black cashmere coat. Maybe something from Loro Piana if you want to splurge.
I'm a woman but over the years I have actually bought vintage men's cashmere coats, and I even found a vicuna coat at Good Will or Salvation Army thrift store. Every coat I bought looked like it was never worn, and I had them tailored.

Yes, the fit on your shoulders and back look good!
It is a more tailored look (as opposed to oversized) but if that’s what you like then it works well.

I think you look really good in this trench coat! The different looks you've posted look really nice, and I do especially like the belted look.

Agree that I do not see many men wearing trench coats, but there's nothing wrong with that. My husband has a trench coat but he hardly wears it because it's in a color that's not easy to match, but when he does he looks great!

Thank you all I appreciate it ! It seems most of you like the tailoring/style of a trench coat. That give me more confidence to wear it despite what people might think.

Just sometimes it happens I wonder what people think... especially ladies as I don't to look weird or out of style to them :amuse:

But one thing that I don't really understand, it trench coats look great and elegant so then why don't many men wear it ?

Someone upward said the coat looks more feminine when buttoned up and belted? That's true?
