Traveling Rings

I wore a fake set on my honeymoon, though partly because there were issues with the structural intregity of my wedding band, but also because I didn't want damaged, stolen or lost rings on my honeymoon. Since then on most of our trips I have worn my set. If I don't wear my set I usually just wear two of my other wedding bands that are plainer and that's that. I can leave those on for just about everything (including demo'ing a bathroom even!)

I am just like you! What type of safe deposit? I've thought of it but I am afraid they will take the safe deposit if my house gets robbed! :push:

I am the opposite, I wear all of my jewelry out because I am concerned my house will be robbed so I feel it is safer on me ! When I went to the beach vacation last year I thought I may leave my stuff behind in a safe deposit, maybe I will do that this year. Does that seem safe ? I have never used the box before. I may get a CZ travel set and leave my real rings behind. The thing though is that I am allergic to cheap metals and alloys so that probably won't work either.

I assume she's talking about a safe deposit box at a bank. Although I have a safe that was put in place when the foundation to my house was poured, and a wall safe, the jewelry goes to the safe deposit box at the bank when I travel. I think that's the safest place for it.

How about a safe deposit box at a bank? I had a client that only comes to access her box before and after she goes on a vacation (I guess to leave all her jewels behind) and around the holidays. She had told me once that she only wears the bling bling to blow everyone out of the water at family gatherings and parties during the holidays.

I just discovered this website, which looks like it might fit your needs for something pretty and cheap. I haven't purchased anything through them, though, so I can't speak to the service.

We have one at the bank mostly for documents and things but I still feel weird leaving the jewelery in there, should I be concerned or am I just paranoid. I have never been there or used the box.

There are a lot of places that sell CZs in real 14k gold settings, including QVC, so you don't have to worry about having a reaction.

Do not feel weird. Your jewelry is perfectly safe.
Many people who only want to pay insurance for the times they wear their jewelry leave it in a safe deposit box the rest of the time.
A safe deposit box cannot be opened without your key and the bank
employee using their key. You then go into a room and open your box and the bank employee is not in there with you seeing what you do.

I have a safe deposit box at the bank. We keep birth certificates, passports, and other important documents in it. I also keep jewelry in it. I feel totally unsafe having too much in my home. There has been a story in the news the last couple nights about a cleaning lady that robbed her clients. She stole jewelry, sports memorabilia, etc. One person she stole from was a man dying of cancer. The cleaning lady's husband is a police officer! And this happened in an upper-class neighborhood. I think a box at the bank is the best bet for items you are not wearing.

I think getting an imitation (CZ or moisanite) stone for traveling is a great and safer idea than wearing your real wedding ring. God forbid any mishaps should happen to your "ring" while you're on vacation, esp. some far away place at least it wouldn't feel like the end of the world since you didn't have to pay too much if at all for the fake substitute!

i think if you're going to get a "fake wedding set," then it's probably not a good idea to go blingy either even though it's fake. if you attract potential thieves that may hurt you to get to them, then whether or not your set is real or fake is a moot point. i think a simple band, maybe with a few diamonds scattered in will be a good alternative.

I have a fake set of standard rings/bracelets that look a lot like the real ones that I have, so that way I'm not too heartbroken if anything gets damaged or stolen when I'm traveling.

The CZs are made pretty well, and they're set in white gold, because I'm slightly allergic to silver. (Except for my piercings, which are SUPER sensitive.) I even have a fake set of earrings to wear because I'm scared of leaving one behind on the nightstand in a hotel.

My friend lost her wedding ring on her honeymoon because it fell down the drain! She took it off, set it on the side of the tub, (who knows for what reason) and accidentally knocked it into the tub that had an open drain. The hotel was nice enough to actually have someone sort through the sewage pipe to hopefully find it but unfortunately it wasn't recovered.

My mom also had a friend who took off her ring in a restaurant bathroom while traveling. (Don't know why she took it off...) She set it down on the counter and walked away, forgetting the ring!!:shocked: Of course when she remembered and went back, someone had taken it.

After hearing these stories (and knowing how forgetful I am), I got a cz set for traveling. The one that I mainly wear is a band with 2 TCW of little diamonds set all around, and I'll add nicer ones if I know I'll be doing. Just like daluu said, dont' want to attract too much attention in sometimes because a robbery is still a robbery!

My other trick is that if I'm wearing a blingy diamond to somewhere nice, but I may encounter some scary situations, is just to swivel the diamond in towards my palm and close my hand into a fist, that way it looks like I'm just wearing a plain band. :D Then when I want to be blingy, presto! I swivel the diamond out and I'm looking good! (I do this often on the subway with my 3CT pear-shaped diamond.)
