I bought my very first tote late last year. It's a Gucci Flora tote and I absolutely adore it. It was my most used bag right through spring and summer and I was quite sad to put it away when autumn arrived. I missed my tote so much that I went ahead and bought a Fendi Monster tote for autumn and winter so now I have a tote available all year round.
I was actually very surprised by how often I reached for my tote in the beginning. Now I'm a complete convert. They fit so much and still manage to look stylish with a side order of fun.

I bought a vintage Ferragamo tote this year and I was surprised how much I like carrying it because of ease of use. Before this, I was more of a satchel girl. Then just a week ago, I received my Massaccesi midi Selene, and again, though I was not sure of the size at first, I am now so happy after using it for several days. Though midi, it is still very roomy, easy to carry, comfortable on the shoulders and made of very nice leather plus workmanship is superb. So, yes, I have discovered that totes also work for me.

Good suggestions! A friend of mine has a cobalt blue tote (I didn't ask the brand) and its a fun pop of color!

I think my tote issue is two fold. Plain colors on solid materials (a lot of black leather) and the shape is usually meh. I love Chanel but that Cerf tote does NOT move me. I love Prada but their totes are yawn. All are functional but don't excite me.

Totes are a usually just a basic top heavy leather rhombus. I'll keep my mind (somewhat open) but they just seem like the workhorse of the handbag family.

I love totes and because they mostly have little hardware I pay more attention to the design such as monogrammed patterns or texture such as patent, animal prints, striped, watercolours, they have a look all their own that is so classic and simple compared to other kinds of bags.

I wanted to like totes, but I'm always paranoid of someone trying to sneak behind me and try to lift my wallet without me noticing. I had a Marc Jacobs perforated tote which I loved (my mom liked it, too) but I ended up returning it because well, I got paranoid. It was just too wide and large so I didn't feel safe enough to carry as a purse. Also, it seemed too much like a beach/poolside bag than well, a purse. So I sent it back.

I do have Marc's soft nylon totes which I do carry from time to time, though. And since it's so slouchy and tall, I can keep it close against my body and not worry about some lowlife trying to steal my wallet. I love it and I wished Marc made more of them.

I also like Rebecca Minkoff's MAB tote since it's taller and not as wide (so I feel safer carrying it with all of my things on the bottom), but the rolled handles hurts my shoulders. Oh well.
