I love TB but love deals on TB even better. If you live in NYC Clothingline always has TB sample sales, at least 3tx a year. Sign up on their site and you will get an email when they have a sale. Also the TB outlet in Woodbury Commons in July. Not only do they have deep discounts but if you spend for example $750 you get an extra $100 off. Go to Premium Outlets and sign up for emails. I roughly spent $800 on shoes and accesories and got an extra $150 off last year.

I wear a size European 40 in ballerinas and size European 39 in flip flops

I am a European 39, which is a 8.5 USA. In TB I wear a 8.5 but tend to go up a half size in really high wedges.
