Most of the popular brands that consumers know--Cartier, Tag, etc.--aren't coveted by those who are serious about the engineering and craftsmanship that go into fine mechanical watches. I always suggest the timezone.com message board for people interested in learning more about mechanical watch brands. I'm particular to some of the German brands (in particular Sinn) for offering outstanding mechanics and style at a lower price than most Swiss watch brands (Audemars, etc.). I would look at what kind of movement this Canadian watch uses (probably a modified ETA) and do a little research to make sure it's of a high quality (and research the company, of course!). But my main advice to you is to get a watch because it possesses qualities that are important to you, not to other people. Most people know nothing about quality timepieces, and know even less about what makes a "good" watch or "good" brand. Don't buy a watch to impress people who know nothing about watches anyways. I think of my collection of mechanical watches as an "under the radar" luxury and interest, and it doesn't bother me at all that the brands I wear are unfamiliar to just about everyone who asks about them.
