Hi bob,

I recently used the screwdriver on my bracelet, it slots in perfectly, do you think there still could be a chance that it might strip the screw if I tighten it too much?

I am in the West Los Angeles area. I have a cheap set of small screwdrivers (for changing kids toys batteries). None of them seem to fit the bracelet well. Any direction/advice you can give would be greatly appreciated. I called the Beverly Hills store to ask them which one they used (they didn't use the little gold one to put it on me) and they couldn't tell me.

I'm also in LA - SF Valley. The BH store is where we got both of my wife's bracelets. The SA used a small regular screwdriver every time. I'll bet the Cartier store provides them to the SA's and they have a bunch of them but don't know what they are. There's a wonderful hardware store on Santa Monica near Robertson in West Hollywood that would have the correct screwdrivers. I can't think of the name right now. It's right around the corner from the Christian Louboutin store. We always hit both places! Will send the model and blade size later today.

With such a small screw I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to over torque the threads and snap off the head - YIKES that would be a bad thing! That having been said, when the SA put the screws in with her non Cartier screwdriver, she REALLY tightened the screws. I mean she stood up with my wife sitting down and cranked them in! No sign of damage, and they still loosened up after time, hence the LocTite. I prefer a lighter touch, however. If the gold screwdriver you have fits OK so be it, but why scratch it up?

@hockeygirl: Why couldn't the SAs at the Beverly Hills store tell you? For heaven's sake, it's not like they're using proprietary patent-pending technology... It's a screwdriver!!!

I honestly think that they didn't know what size it is or where they got it. To be honest, the BH is geographically very close to me but I'm thinking about going to the Costa Mesa or the Topanga Canyon stores next time. They are just not as personable and aren't willing to take the time with each customer.

Thanks Bob! A model and blade size would be so helpful! Is Koontz Hardware the store you are thinking of? I've heard great things about them but have never been. Maybe it's worth a trip. I find my local Home Depot or Lowes very unhelpful.

I did finally talk to the Beverly Hills store service department and they don't know the brand/size of their screwdriver either! He did say it came in a set of 6 jewelers screwdriver. The only thing the service dept said was to make sure the screwdriver is long enough length-wise and I may have to file down the blade a little bit if it's too wide. He said that's what they had to do with the sets they got. I thought it was interesting. I would just rather buy one that is already a good fit (sounds like the one you got works great!)

BTW, was that SA named Worthy? That was who helped me and she also screwed my bracelet on REALLY REALLY tight. I was afraid she was going to damage the screws. I have the new screw system so not as afraid of losing the screws.

Hockeygirl-

No, our SA was named Jenifer and she no longer works there. The screwdriver I use is a 'Do it Center' #319319 with a 1/8" blade. The 1/8" blade is the important measurement. I can see what the SA was telling you. The blade on this screwdriver is just a bit too thick and remember now that I did file it down just a little. The blade width is perfect. Try it in the store some are already thinner than others. We have the original style screws here, so I can't speak to the slot size on the new style bracelets.

You got the name of the hardware store in W Hlwd correct, Koontz. What a fun place! Any hardware store should have fine drivers, but you may have to file the blade just a smidge.

Let me know how it works out for you!

Bob

I've worn two loves together for last six months and unfortunately they do bang together and cause some scratches. I've also noticed that the screws on my RG one comes loose all the time to the point that I was tightening it on a daily basis! I finally got so frustrated that I went to Cartier today and one of the salesmen used Loc tite (sp?) as well today on the RG one only, we left the WG alone. So I'm really crossing my fingers this will work as I like wearing two on the same wrist. I'll keep everyone posted if the issue reoccurs. This thread is so timely!

Bumping. Still debating adding a second love and was curious of any updates. Especially from those who wears theirs on the looser side. Thanks!

Edit: old thread hopefully one of the mods can move this over to the Cartier sub forum

My update is we added a third love to my wife's stack and she bought me a wg, both about 6 months ago. As always we used loctite and all is secure on all 4!

Has she ever had to take hers off after having used the Loctite? I'm nervous for like emergency situations, surgeries, births, etc. what color loctite do you use?

Thanks!

Hi - Although she's worn her loves 24/7 for many years, they have been off twice for various reasons like you suggest. Mine went on in January and hasn't been off yet. We use purple Loctite, which is low adhesion. It's not a problem at all to take the screws out. When you put a little torque on the screw to remove it, you can feel that it's tight, but then breaks free and spins normally. When putting it back on I squeeze a little dab of Loctite on something non porous, and use the tip of a tooth pick to apply a very little amount to the screw thread. I haven't noticed any residue on the screws when they come out. Tighten it down and it's good for as long as you want to leave it on! Loctite isn't really glue, it's a thread locker. As I understand it, Loctite fills the gap within the threads creating friction and preventing the screw from moving easily. I suppose it's a matter of semantics, but if it keeps thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from falling off, I'm good with it!
