I could not agree more, especially with regards to older estate pieces which I personally prefer as well. I own a number of estate Schlumberger rings and was walking past newer versions in the store thinking that either I am crazy or the newer rings are smaller and thinner. Last week I managed to have a closer look and compare them - I will post pics in a separate thread but this is amazing how much smaller the newer ring is!
If you don't mind me asking - what is the difference between newer and older version of the Lotus ring? I only seen the newer version IRL and really wondering what sort of changes they made. Hope it is not too off-topic!
You can find pictures and discussion in the VCA forum, but the newer version basically loses the unique bamboo appearance of the bands (now just smooth, and boring), has more gold outlining (though probably less total gold overall) and therefore noticeably smaller diamonds and lower tcw; the pistils look weird and more prominent, leaf shape is different, and (probably) is less in gram weight. Those are what I can describe off the top of my head (and I only own the original version). There are probably several other differences as well on closer inspection.
