Who knows really but that doesn’t look used to me (unless a werewolf wore them). It actually looks like a bit of the final wheel used for polishing remained wrapped around the post on the earrings after they were made.

But, either way, at least Tiffany’s offers exchanges on earrings so you could get new ones.

That looks like fuzz not ear gunk. No way ear gunk would get at the base of the post and not the butterfly backs which are notoriously known for trapping icky ear goop.

That looks like fuzz from the earring holder... I clean my earrings each time before I wear them- and when I do get buildup of skin cells it’s always white in color. With Tiffany’s, they are used to having people purchase and return items... that’s why they give you a grace period to return. Don’t ever feel bad or nervous about returning anything. The sales associates deal with it all the time, it’s part of the job.
