Hello all, as per title, I’m undecided on the best combination of 4Cs for the diamond of a setting ring in platinum. Carat size is going to be 0.90, and I’m now wondering whether I should compromise on colour (G instead of F) or clarity (VS2 instead of VS1). My heart is set on the F as a colour as I’m colour sensitive and the setting ring would be paired with a half circle embrace band, which has D-F colour stone. I also love the idea of having a colourless diamond.

The SA reassured me by saying that Tiffany rings are always eye clean regardless of the clarity level, but I’m afraid of spending so much for a stone with inclusions that could compromise the brilliance and overall light performance.

Finally, both the G-VS1 and F-VS2 have the exact same price and are all triple excellent in terms of cut, as per Tiffany standards.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Personally I don't see color until H, but if you're very color sensitive then go for the F.

Both VS is going to be eyeclean, especially under 1ct, and in a round brilliant cut! The light performance comes from the cut angles, and even if they're both triple excellent they may have different "personalities" (ie, more white flashes vs rainbow fire or vice versa), so if you can take a look in person it would be best. Your eyes and heart will probably tell you exactly which you prefer. :)

I would personally prefer a better clarity stone. I think it would bother me that my stone had an inclusion that might compromise the brilliance. Unless it is a very large carat size >2, don't think you will be able to tell the difference between the F and G colors. Both sound beautiful though!

That’s a very good point, I’ve been told that beyond the specs the light performance can vary significantly, can’t wait for the ring to arrive in store and see it in person! Thank you :)

That’s exactly what I’m worried about, it would be a shame for the inclusions to compromise the brilliance

Go to the boutique and look at both rings in person. Don’t look at their specs, just see them and pick the one which sparkles the most. I have a 1.35c Tiffany setting with I colour and it looks white to me. Keep us posted and congrats on getting a Tiffany ring.
Thank you :) and yes, I think I shouldn’t just be fixated on the numbers perhaps and that every diamond is unique in they way it sparkles, I just hope I’ll be able to tell the two stones apart… I find that the lights in the store are very deceiving!

Ask to see it in different lighting ( near a window or the door ; when I looked at Tiffany rings the sales associate and I were able to step outside the store to see how the diamond looked.)
And don't feel pressured to buy either one if you don't absolutely love it!
It took me ages to find my current diamond, trying on many different stones across a lot of different brands, so be patient.
