Tiffany repair - USPS stole the package in NYC with items for repair

The package was turned in by someone (not official USPS delivery, not in tracking). The jewelry was inside!! Investigation already started (phone calls, inquiries) and then package popped up 5 days after the first attempted delivery. SO fishy! anyway happy ending.

Thank you. It was either mis-delivered to another location and they handed it to Tiffany next week or USPS really took it and decided to turn it in because it was too much hassle to be investigated for the jewelry that needs repair and can't be pawned at high price. Also it's traceable with particular damage on the bracelet's clasp. Usually people drop it after the retailer refunds or replaces the items, not in my case.
What a story!!! I am so glad this had a happy ending! All good information to be aware of when shipping expensive items.
It even got crazier. In the morning I got email from USPS that my package is available for pickup in local PO in NYC now. How can the same package be in 2 different places - in PO but not being marked as such in tracking and in fact pop up in the store? Is it a Shredinger package or they had a duplicate? It just shows that USPS tracking means nothing. It probably was available for a pick up but they brought it to the store on May 4th without updating tracking.
So happy it turned up, you must have felt sick. USPS' left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I went to pick up a mail hold, there was a guy who was waiting for them to find his package, he had received an email that it was being held at that office. They couldn't find it, it contained medicine that he needed.
Thank you. So true! About mail hold, when I return I always receive a pile including mail for neighbors, for neighboring buildings and completely random but kinda with a similar name. Which means part of mine was also mis-delivered and discarded.
That's why I added a signature confirmation. USPS didn't care. And the lady on the phone was like a) it happens everywhere, not just here, b) ask for refund from the retailer. Not helpful or even close to professional.
