Tiffany Platinum Chain - adding jump ring

Thanks ame! I would definitely take your advice and ask to have it redone.

It is common practice for a platinum piece at Tiffany to be lengthened without additional charge? I wonder if I would need to speak with a manager.

When I was looking at a Platinum DBTY necklace locally, I inquired about making it an 18" bec 16 would be too chokery for my tastes, and they told me that for Platinum they will make it up to 20" free of charge and have it shipped to me or I could pick it up in store. I have not purchased it, but that was what they told me in the local store. When I called the Tiffany repairs number about that same thing, asking if I bought online and needed it extended, how they handle that, the gentleman I spoke with told me the same.

Either way I would go in and speak with a manager because you're unhappy with the quality of work you got on a Tiffany piece, esp since you paid for the service.

Did you get this done at Tiffany if you don't mind me asking? It is a brilliant idea!
No...I had my old jeweler make it. I bought a 3 strand DBTY (non Tiffany) and wanted the option of layering. I had it made in 18K WG to match the majority of my necklaces. As I posted, terrific for stationary (ie, single DBTY) pendants. Not terribly expensive but get a good solid clasp.

Hi OP! So interesting as I am thinking of making my two Victoria earrings into two pendants - and I'd like to do the same thing, add a jump ring for the 16 and 18 inch options!

I've bought a few things at Tiffany's and no, they have NEVER charged me to alter a new diamond or gold high-value item, which this is. They've even re-sized and then accepted as a return an anniversary band for me! Honestly it's kind of crazy - I'd definitely return it and ask for a refund on the work and a re-do. This is not an uncommon request by any means and all companies I've worked with (Cartier, VCA, Tiffany's) always offer to add at least 2 inches for free to the chain. I don't think adding a jump ring should make it any more expensive. For silver I can see them charging (possibly).... but this is a substantial piece and they should be trying to make you happy!!!

I own several Tiffany diamond pendants in platinum. I had been informed by one of the SAs that they can add up to 3 inches free of charge. Anyway, I added jump rings and an inch to two of my pendants. I did them a few months after I purchased my pendants and the ladies at the customer service counter did not ask me to pay for them.

I am very happy with one of them but on the second one, the end of the chain that links to the jump ring is a bit tight. I just got it back and I think they did not do such a great job. Anyway, I am not complaining as Tiffany did not charge me. BTW, these two pendants of mine are less expensive than your Victoria. If I were you, I would go back and have Tiffany fix it and refund you the fee. Good luck and keep us posted.

Can you post a pic of your beautiful pendant?

Thanks MatAllston! I am still pushing for a refund but my SA has not given me a definite answer. She has been off since Tuesday. I plan on talking to her tomorrow when she works.

Here is a picture of the pendant taken with my iPhone:

Not a very flattering picture, but this is the only I have for now.

Thanks for the info, Ame!

Thanks surfergirljen for the information! I really should have said something about the fee when I was in the store but I was in a hurry to leave. Will take your advice and push for a refund on the fee and have them rework the jump ring.
