Tiffany Pearls....What do you think? Is it an investment?

Maybe investment wasn't the best word...I meant investment as in, investing in a classic piece of jewlery that would last and could be pasted down....

So I got the earrings... I love them, and I think you guys have helped me realize that tiffany's might not be the best for the necklace.... I'm going to cool it and enjoy the earrings for now, then decided what I'll do for the necklace....

The earrings are beautiful...They are a crisp white with beautiful luster.... they are the perfect set for those days you want a classic stud to dress up your outfit, whether you have dressy clothes or jeans on....

i'd look at some of the online sites, i've bought from Pearl Paradise and Pearl Outlet and overall was pleased.

i also got some nice pearls at macys. when they have the blowout sales, you can get a nice deal.

enjoy the studs! gorgeous!

Congrats on the pearl earrings - I'd love to see a modeling pic! I don't have any pearl earrings yet so am curious. Sounds like a good compromise to me. :) Save Tiffany's for something that everyone will recognize (and admire) as one of their designs! :) The way I see it, why pay the price if you really can't tell? :)

I agree! I love Tiffany and I did consider to get the pearls there but I told myself that I would get a better deal elsewhere. Fresh water pearls are on the cheaper ends of pearls so... I was even looking into pearls at Costco...hahaha.

Congrats on your Tiffany rings. Did you share pics and specs on the other threads yet? POST!

I will I will!! LOL... the engagement ring is being sized right now and it's killing me - I want it NOW!!! I already have the band and am in love - I keep staring at it (it's a half circle of shared-prong diamonds) and how sparkly it is - I'm going to fall over myself staring at the e-ring!! Will post pics as soon as I have her home!! (praying my nails grow a bit in the meantime so they look okay!)

Yah, the earrings were a good compromise... Hubby and I have Tiffany wedding bands too. Mine is the channel set half circle..... If I get a chance I will post pics of the earrings and the wedding band as well....

And no, it's not an investment, jewelry rarely is. You buy it b/c you like it and are going to wear it and keep it, it has low resale value in relation to what you pay for it new.

No joke. I have seen some honking HUGE pearl necklaces go for literally pennies on the dollar at auction house like Sothebys & Christies. These necklaces were from famous peoples estates & were orignally bought for well into 6 figures.

Unless you mean an investment in your wardrobe, I say no. Jewelry under $100,000 should not be thought of as an investment, and Tiffany jewelry without a conspicuous logo, no matter how beautiful, will not hold to the usual 2/3 resale value.

Only buy jewelry as a hedge against inflation if gold is at a historic low or you've found a great deal on a significant (ie hope, cullinan) diamond.

Try Blue Nile for a better fashion value, or buy something from the 1837 collection. Somebody earlier that you should only buy a strand of freshwater pearls there if it has a unique clasp. I agree!

I agree..... The freshwater pearls at tiffany are over priced, and I'm buying it as an investment in my wardrobe... I actually have settled on a freshwater strand from Birks, the canadian version of Tiffanys, that is just over $300... it has a beautiful clasp. The pearls are practically blemish free and completely round. They are at the same quality as the ones at Tiffany's if not better, and they match nicely with the pearl earrings I got from Tiffany's. So I think I'm settled on that.

I have a lot of the silver jewlery from Tiffany, and our platinum wedding bands are from there as well. I've got the 3.9mm diamond half circle channel set band. That was well worth the money. The pearls, not so much.....

Thanks everyone for your 2 cents...!

I have the Tiffany Pearl studs and love them. After buying those I also had looked into the Pearl strand necklace, but ultimately decided against it due to many reasons others stated above. Instead I went with the VCA MOP Alhambra necklace and they complement each other very well.

yes, tiffany has a great collection of pearl jewelry. I also bought a pearl necklace from them, that's so cool.

Recently, I tried something new and shop an akoya pearl bracelet from bharatpearls... but now I am looking to buy a ring, please suggest me, where can i find that? of course in my budget too.
Try Mikimoto. at least they are experts in pearls and grow their own, unlike mass-grown freshwater Tiffany's ones (unless it's one of Tiffany's unique pieces of high-end jewelry).
