Good thread, OP!
I'm on the fence about white bags, honestly. I used to not care and wear them whenever I wanted, but now I wouldn't wear a stark white in the winter. I just can't. A creamy white or ivory or "winter white," however, are different stories!
I think even light-colored suede could and should be used in the spring/summer. Obviously, darker suedes work in fall/winter months. I honestly don't understand why people are afraid of suede -- in the past, I've owned all suede bags and they hold up great. I don't fill them with water or let them sit out in the rain overnight, but I do carry them even on (light) rainy days and they hold up just fine. I think it's a much tougher texture than people give it credit for. It's SO gorgeous on a bag!
Patent leathers-- hmm....normally I'd say fall/winter, but in the past,
Coach has made some stunning colors in patent leather (corals, grays, seafoam greens) that would easily work in the summer. I love patent leather, actually. People either love it or hate it. I adore it! So chic and pretty.
When I buy an expensive Coach bag, I try to get ones in colors that will work year 'round - tans/camels (like my new soft borough grommet in tan), etc....but I love color, and I'd wear purple or emerald green year 'round, hands down!
The only thing I'd keep specifically for spring/summer (besides a stark white) are the ones designed with those "light hearted" months in mind -- the pretty ginghams and checks, for example.
But I agree with others: life is short, and if you love a bag, just wear it whenever the heck you want to wear it. Your confidence while wearing it will supersede whatever season it happens to be!
