And just to be fair to the Miu Miu, same bag in different color.

ha!

I prefer the Miu Miu hands down. Then again, I am not a fan of the mass market lines of most designers. Marc by, See by Chloe, Michael Michael Kors etc. Quality is always lagging...just been my experience.

I am also sucker for embossed, quilted and gathered leathers so....

I don't care for the "droopy" sides on the MJ bag. For some reason, they remind me of a basset hound! (Isn't that silly?) And you say it's heavy, which would def be a deal-breaker for me.

You've been talking about buying a Miu Miu bag for at least a year now. So (unless you've already bought one when I wasn't looking?:graucho:) now might be the time! I like the curved line of the top of the bag, and I like the vertical "quilting" which is totally different from the quilting on your Stams. So it's still quilted, but in a different way.

The logo doesn't bother me... it isn't all that large.

I say get the Miu Miu, especially if you don't already own one.

Agree with you on the contemporary designers. That ship set sail years ago. :)

So to get pricing in here, the Miu Miu is about $1900, the MJ is about $2100 - 2600, depending on leather texture.
The polished is $2300. So there is a bit of a difference between the two, but not much.

Elaine, you have SUCH a good memory!
Yes, I've been eyeing the gathered Miu Miu leather for a while. No, I have not bought one yet. ;)

Well, there you are, then! You own a ton of MJ, and not a single MM. So if you're thinking about a curated collection, it might be time to add a MM to the mix. Are you definite that it has to be a black bag? I'm kind of partial to the MM in blue.;)

(Then again, I only own 3 black bags, I guess because I wear so many black outfits that I use my bags to bring some color to my look.)

I think I'd choose the Miu Miu, just based on looks alone. The MJ is "too busy" for my taste. Basically there are three large zipper pulls, a dangly lock, a dangly hidden key thing, a buckle on the handle, two top handles and a long strap, plus a bit of that side flair look made popular by the Celine luggage and phantom bags. As my grandmother used to say, "that's a lot of look"

I prefer a clean line aesthetic and the Miu Miu is closer to that of the two.

Must say though that the MJ leather colour options are beautiful.

I should have changed my avatar. (will do so now) Pay no attention to it.
I am older and do quite a bit of dressing up.
I just can't decide. Love them both.
I hate decisions!

lol. it even looked great on the avatar.

if you can afford them both, I'd say get them both, they are so different, and could be justified, but if only one is in the budget, and dress up a lot, I think the marc jacobs is much more of a dressy / professional bag. the miu miu looks much more casual to me. but again, very partial, love structured bags with clean lines and a more "dressy" flavor. so my vote is firmly with MJ. And I too am a year away from forty, so often steer clear of more casual bags that, although nice, look more like 20's early 30's bags. Hard to fit them into my very professional life.

I prefer the MJ, mainly because I love the satchel shape and the smooth leather. But as Tartlet pointed out, there's a lot of hardware going on.
The black MiuMiu does nothing for me but the blue is very pretty. Aside from the weight, my main concern would be how the soft leather would hold up if it truly is used as a work bag. There are a lot of edges that can get scuffed up.
I agree with immigratty - the best solution is to get both!

I've seen your Stam collection (so wonderful!!) and maybe it's time for some different leathers? For some reason I'm not feeling Miu Miu. The MJ, on the other hand, looks so elegant!!

I have a navy Miu Miu. Had it for a couple of years.

Your grandmother sounds like a wise woman. :) It does have a lot going on.

Maybe Prada has something similar? I am 10+ yrs ahead of you. I think of Miu Miu as a young version of Prada. Hmm.

Yeah, I agree too. Maybe that could be my goal for the end of the year - to have both.

Thank you! I have such an MJ loyalty thing going on, too.
Thank you for your input.

yes, I definitely see Miu Miu as the "Marc by Marc Jacobs" of the Prada house, something to appeal to the younger ppl, not your mom's bag type of deal. Perhaps check Prada and see if they have something better. in the mean time my vote is with MJ

Here is a link to N article discussing the Prada Gaufre and the Miu Miu Matelasse. Of the two I prefer the Miu Miu.
