...but geez-louise! cant other design companies come up with anything better than a rather blatant MJ inspired bag? this thread is an ode to all those companies out there, who have borrowed from the genius that is MARC JACOBS. Not street bought knockoffs, mind you, but respectable fashion companies....

case in point:
Linea Pelle leather clutch $325

borrowed significantly from MJ's sweet punk line. she even totally took the zipper pull design...blasphemy!

Dang! that's BS!!! you see that a lot though! I notice it in Michael Kors bags...kinda sad! I love the sweet punk way more though..it is sooooo BAD A**!!

^ yeah, i was pretty shocked by the striking similarities between those two bags.

on the other hand, marc has and is always being accused of ripping off or "heavily referencing" other designers like ysl and chanel. i see other designers do the same to mj and the reverse charge isn't leveled upon them. remember the big hubbub we had over the colorblock clutch, and how some of the ladies in the hermes forum thought it was a rip-off? as if hermes has the patent rights to the color orange and locks.

I can understand "inspiration", but not blatant rip-offs. Wow. Some of those are just :wtf:
Loved Tad's comment about Hermes having patent rights to the color orange and locks! LOL!!
BTW, that Paloma bag is GORGEOUS!!!! I've never seen that style before and I LOVE it!

nordstroms and target, among others have come out with these 'obscure' satchels, this one called 'the tab satchel':

and the original, a MBMJ delancy (similar to the dr. groove which is imitated as well):

when I was at Nordstroms last week, I glanced at the sale table and there were all these accessories with those type of "sweet punk" studs on them -- I think they were all Hobo brand -- there were a TON of them

the thing with MJ is he uses past bags as inspiration, but IMHO always changes things up to make it truly MJ. These designs above, they basically just copied the designs and didn't change enough to respresent the companies 'vision'.

MJ copied the quilting of chanel in an homage to classicism, but the over-sized kisslock and huge comical chain of the stam was all him.

MJ did an homage to Hermes, but upped the colors and added enough touches, that it's not the refined class of hermes, but more playful in an MJ sort of way.

he treads on toes, but always manages to flash some of his own design quirkiness before they have a chance to scold...

there was a MBMJ bag that had a lock even more similar to that HH that came out prior to both the paloma and the HH....i just cant seem to find picks.

I know that when MJ starting to do the quilted bags, I thought it was too "chanel-like" for MJ -- everything he had done prior to that just seemed so "anti-chanel" -- like polar opposites of Chanel, and here he was introducing quilted leather and chain straps -- I wasn't on the band wagon originally, mainly because I've never really been a fan of Chanel and it just didn't appeal to me -- of course, as time went on, MJs quilted line took on a look of its own and became very different and distinguishable from Chanel -- but I still believe he was inspired that first season by the Classic Chanel bags and drew inspiration from their timelessness & vintage appeal. The Quilted Chanel flap bag has been around for more than 50 yrs and I suspect that MJ's stam has made a mark for itself & will carry on just as long

i don't think it's more copying, but starting a trend.
MJ kind of kick started the whole stud trend again...
and thats why so many other bags from different brands have studs as welll....
like. Rebecca Minkoff's stud on the resort line on morning after bags

andddd Burberry's resin looking studs on one of there totes
