its about 70 pounds.... empty.

They were built for steamship travel between continents.
They were also built to last being loaded with clothing to allow a passenger enough items to wear after arrival at their port of call.
At that period of time, a trans-Atlantic voyage took 6 to 7 days...one way!
They were loaded and unloaded by the ship’s crew onto the liner.
Fantastic old world craftsmanship enabled them to last for a century or more.
