I purchased my PM in fall of 2012. It's in great condition, almost new since didn't use her a lot in the past 5 years. I use a purse organizer and store it stuffed in the dust bag. I've been keeping an eye out for cracks and I just just noticed one near the handle, similar to where others have reported this. I still have the receipt and plan to bring it in. Please tell me that this has been documented as a known design flaw which probably led to the bag being discontinued. I'm hoping that I won't have to go into too much explanation, won't be given a hard time, and will be offered at least store credit. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Chloe. Yes, this should be a known issue to LV. It happened to mine and it was gently used and in mint condition. Actually, there was a hint of a divot when I purchased it new from the boutique. I brought it up to my SA and she assured me if it cracked they would take care of me and they did issue me a credit. I think my date code was '12, but I had purchased it in '14. GL!

The first store I brought the bag in said this in normal wear and tear. The second store sent pictures of the bag to quality control, after a week they requested more pictures of overall condition and ended up giving me a credit. GL!
 
So meanwhile, do you still keep the bag or do they take it from you? This will be army first experience with this. Thanks!
Hi Chloe, I use an out of state SA. I send her pictures, then she asks that I send her the bag. If it gets approval they keep it and I'll get the credit. If you bring it into the store, they prob take pics and send them off then get back to you with an answer. I have always gotten a credit. If you go through this thread you'll find posts regarding the Port cracking. GL.
 
Today I went in and spoke with an SA. I explained everything and that I was aware of known design flaw. He looked at the crack then asked for my receipt. He also took his time to look at the whole bag, which was totally fine because it looks great since I don't use her a lot ( maybe I babied her too much). He took pictures and said he would send them for review. But he said since the bag was 5 years old that they probably couldn't do anything. But he took my information and was really nice about it.
Now...the waiting. How long should I wait to follow up myself?? TIA

Crossing my fingers for you :) I think a week would be a good amount of time to wait. I have heard back within 3-4 days. Keep in mind, if the info comes in when the SA is off, this can lead to a slightly delayed response. GL!

I took mine in a year ago. They took pics and sent them in. They literally called me right after I got back on the freeway. Really annoying since I explained it was a known issue etc, etc. But, they exchanged it when I went back. I just think it's odd that some stores will exchange within 5 minutes and other stores make customers wait it out.
 
I have had a Port PM for almost 2 1/2 years now. It was my first LV. After reading these posts, I looked on my Porto AND IT HAS CRACKS!! On the non zippered side. I never noticed it until I looked at the close up pics someone posted! I will have to read through more of these threads to see what kind of results you received from LV. I thought there was some 2 year limit on fixes? My sister had her Artsy for 2 years and her leather started bubbling at the top of the Mono. She looked online and it was a known defect. When she took it into the LV she bought it from, they took hers and gave her a brand new purse.

To save me from reading hours of threads, does anyone have any advice right off? My cracks are about 1/2 inch long. I also have some very disappointing scrapes and spots out of my handle.
I was about to ask if anyone else's bag had scrapes on the handle. Did you ever try to take your bag in? I have had really bad cracks for a while and have been wondering if the scrapes on the handle will make a difference.

I think you'll just need to take it to a store and see what they say. Store credit is the only thing they'd offer you but I'm not sure if it's been too long now. I had a perfect GM that I took back because of the cracks but that was about 3+ years ago. Let us know what they say!

Hi! I have a Portabello GM from 2015. I did not notice any cracks on my bag until earlier this year. With COVID, I’m just getting around to taking it in to be looked at. Has anyone taken their bag in within the past year? If so, were you able to get store credit? Thank you.
Same here. My date code is SP0165. Took her out to use today and noticed cracks on one side. Were you able to take your bag in for repair?

Does anyone here still use their portobello gm? I have admired it for years but hesitated with all the cracking issues….. now I see a like new 2013 one under 1200 and I’m so tempted….. thoughts ?
