I'm so sad. DH and I bought our wedding bands last year november (around thanksgiving), and the SA told us our rings were pink SAPPHIRE and aquamarine.

here are pics, aren't they gorgeous rings?

Ok, so here is the story. She told us, they were those stones, and I had seen the baby blue one (aquamarine) at their website but I had not seen the pink one, and clueless as I am, and obviously TRUSTING the SA, I believed her it was a pink sapphire.

So I'm posting it all over the net and telling people this.



Yesterday, I go into their site to check out what new things they have come up with, (and to see their new BOW RING), to find out my ring isn't a pink SAPPHIRE but it's a TOURMALINE!!!! WTH? :shocked:



I'm not unhappy because it's a different stone, but I feel I've been lied to straight in my face. :shrugs: Obviously because the SA had NO CLUE of what the stone was, she just made it up! What if I had my heart set on the ring BECAUSE OF THE STONE?


I feel so violated. :( :confused1::wondering

(still, the ring is gorgeous....:love:)

The rings are gorgeous :yes:

Is it possible that your is a sapphire? I hope so for your sake. Otherwise I would call the store or go back and see if the SA who sold them to you is still there. Then I would speak with a manager and see if they can compensate you for the misinformation. It may be a long shot but may be worth a try.

So sorry. Your rings are gorgeous though.

I'm afraid that now I'm sure it's a tourmaline and it makes sense. Reason: I was wondering WHY my pink sapphire was SO DARK. SIGH.

Not sure I want to ask for any compensation, especially considering that I won't be going to Los Angeles till february next year (we flew in especially to get our wedding bands, ering, wedding dress, shoes, etc that time) BUT I'm going to make sure I do find this SA and let her know she's lied to me because it's unacceptable.

You'd think you'd get good service (which I did) and the SA would be HONEST u know? I mean, WHAT IF she had said it was a diamond center and it turnd out to be a regular WHITE STONE? :s


luckily the diamond is a real diamond, then I'd be REALLY MAD.

I'm so sorry about this--if it's any compensation, they're lovely rings. You have excellent taste.

Is it possible that the website is wrong? Someone may have posted an incorrect description. I would perhaps take it to a jeweler and see what they say. If it is in fact tourmaline I would then go directly back to Tiffany's and see what they can do about it, if anything.

There's no excuse for a Tiffany SA to be so ignorant of their products, but I doubt she meant to lie to you. In the unlikely event that it really is a pink sapphire, you'd save yourself much embarrassment by not calling her a liar. If you are correct, I'm sure they'd appreciate your being so gracious and maybe they'll be more inclined to go above and beyond to make things right.

I don't even think I have the receipt anymore. But I'm sure it just says 18k WG atlas?

I bought this rings on november last year, around thanksgiving.


Again, I do not plan to get any sort of compensation but it was a bummer to have thought for about 10 months it was a pink sapphire and then I read they are tourmalines online.

Back when I bought this ring, it wasn't even on the site. The aquamarine was, but the "sapphires" wasn't.



I think i feel even more violated because we flew in 14 hours to Los Angeles (yes it was a LONG flight) to purchase our wedding stuff.

OK firstly.......it's a MAGNIFICENT ring. In fact, the set (both rings) are beautiful.:love: And.....those are the rings that you exchanged on your wedding day.

However, I can see why your are upset. I would be really annoyed too.


Do you have to go back to that particular store?? Is there a Tiffany nearer to you? Did you get any paperwork with it for insurance purposes?

Maybe you could ring the shop in Rodeo, speak to the manager and explain what happened, put the ball in their court and see what happens. ????

Maybe it is a sapphire????

Last time I purchased from Tiffany (which was a while ago) I got documentation with a description of the piece, carat, color, cut etc. They may have switched to tourmalines recently. Did you not get the paperwork? Maybe DH has it tucked away somewhere?

But lovely rings!

I was under the impression that design had a pink sapphire in it. Tourmaline doesn't sound like something they would put in the Atlas collection. Is the one online the same price as the one you bought? That could be a good indicator of whether they changed the design or if they offer 2 options. In any case the SA at Tiffany's was either guessing or it was an honest mistake. As you can imagine if you're talking about gemstones and jewelry all day it can be easy to have a brain fart and say the wrong thing. On the other hand I could see her guessing because new product training at Tiffany's isn't very good, often an employee will not know there is a new product on display and they will have not even seen it until a customer asks to try it on. Sad but true.

This is very disappointing for you. I have to say, I have always found T&Co service to be terrible, not what is expected from a supposed luxury brand.

Maybe you can take your ring to the store and just check exactly what stone is in your ring?

Tylerdurdeen: They might have changed into tourmalines recently who knows, but as I did say, I always thought my sapphires were a LOT more pink that the other pink sapphires I had seen.

Bitten: Service at the T&Co in Rodeo was excellent. Yes I did see 3 SAs just standing and talking to each other and not acknowledging us on the ground floor but that's ok, I prefer browsing that area because it's mainly super expensive diamonds anyway, I'd be annoyed to have someone following me around.


The SA who helped me was on the floor upstairs, which is the "main" floor if you go through the plaza, not the street (if it makes any sense)

Anyway, I think I'll stop by in february and try asking. I doubt the ladies here in my country will know what this is. Hubby got me an amethyst ring from the T&Co store here and it wasn't even on the website. It must have been an old OLD model.

Also, our store only has TWO diamond solitaires, a 0.5 or so and a 0.75 or so.. that's how "small" our market is, reason why we flew to los angeles.



I love the rings, and they mean a lot to me because they were blessed doing our wedding ceremony at church, so I don't plan on exchanging or anything. I just wish she would have been TAUGHT what stone it was and if she didn't know, she could have just said so. I wouldn't be shocked, I mean, I don't expect her to know every single detail, it's not HER store u know? :)

If it's still bothering you I would have a gemologist do an appraisal... I was in yesterday and tried on the color by the yard in pink saphire - and he acyually said "I THINK it's saphire"... lol do they actually not know??

out of curiosity, have you taken this ring to a regular jeweler (not tiffany & co.) to get it appraised to determine what the stone is for sure? it seems like a lot of guesswork at this point, and perhaps you should put your mind at ease and have another, unbiased jeweler look at it and tell you for certain what the stone is.

i don't know anything about pink sapphires, but regular blue sapphires come in all different shades of blue. the lightest being the best, or vice versa. i can't remember. maybe it's the same with pink sapphires?

also, did you pay the same price that is shown on their website with the other stone? if you did, then i would imagine you were duped, because i can't imagine a pink sapphire would be the same price as the tourmaline (or whatever it's called&#8212;i have never heard of it). just an fyi.
