What's interesting is that this isn't a Jonathan Anderson design.

Stuart Vevers designed the Loewe "Origami Tote" in 2013 to serve as an economic exchange between Spain and Japan. It was first a limited-edition collection for an exhibit in Japan. Here is the site for the exhibit, and images can be found below:

Then in 2014 Loewe re-launched the collapsible, foldable tote in two sizes and more colors:

This was Vevers's last bag hit at Loewe before going to Coach. When Anderson joined, it's also the clear starting point for designing his Puzzle bags. I'm a little surprised he's bringing out the Puzzle (Origami) Tote because it draws a direct line to his predecessor without giving credit.

WOW!

In a FB group I am in they posted this pic as the new puzzle tote for AW23. I really like this style but can't find it anywhere yet!

I LOVE this.

I tried this XXL on when I was in Singapore and really liked it.

But it dragged on the floor when hand carried, so it can only be carried on the shoulder for my height.

Plus, trying to reach for the bottom of the bag was a real hassle, even when opening the bag and reaching into it with one strap on my shoulder.

I am 164 cm.

All of the other smaller puzzle totes in the boutique were North-South in style, not East-West. The XXL was the only one, and I really only want an EW style for this tote. When I was there I think it was the FW 2023 collection that was in the boutique.

After months of thinking about the bag after I left Singapore, I decided to get it. By now of course it is the SS 2024 collection that is in stock, and I was buying it online, since there are no Loewe boutique around me. So I was not able to see it in person.

Long story short, I think I have mistakenly bought the XL instead of the XXL :whut:

Having said that, I think the XL was actually the size that I was asking about when I was at the boutique.

But, aside from never having seen the XL in person, I have the XXL in my mind when I made the purchase.

So now I am now super nervous about how this XL might look like. Even if both EW in style, sometimes a slight difference in size can make all the difference. With only 10 cm difference between the XL and XXL I doubt there will be much of a difference visually. While functionally, I think it will be better.

Any of you have any photos of each of the XXL and XL carried by someone about 165 cm or 5'4'' ish that we can compare and get a clearer picture on...? :flowers:

Thanks in advance!

Just wondering if anyone has photos of the XL and XXL carried for comparison?

As it turns out the XL is perfect for a smaller shorter frame, and I ended up having my own comparison photos for both sizes carried on an average height of 5’4’’ or 165 cm ish :happydance:

I might post the two photos later in case any of you are interested.

Thanks for reading me talk to myself!

This post was made with the idea of

(1) sharing my experience with the XXL as someone how is 164 cm (5'4'').
(2) sharing the fact that the XL and XXL are often confused with each other, not only by me, but by online sellers as well.
(3) hoping to have more posts and info about the differences between the two.

I've started another thread to focus on XL and XXL puzzle fold tote from the men's collection for those who might be interested. So far, there does not seem to be much interest, but I thought it might be useful anyway, maybe for possible future reference.

thank you for the history, it is amazing and a more sophisticated design calling for craftsmanship.

how are fellow puzzle tote owners storing their puzzle totes? folded or stuffed/upright? hanging? in or out of dust bag?

i know the bag folds very nicely by design but some part of me irrationally worries about always storing it folded haha
We store ours flat but without anything sitting on top of them - but this had led to us forgetting about one of our large puzzle totes which has hence not seen any use since we bought it. LOL

I’ve honestly not stored mine because it has become my default bag. When I do switch it out I usually stuff it and put it on my closet shelf. Long term, I would probably fold it but be careful not to stack anything on it.
