The pros and cons of having a new L.V microchiped bag?

Which would you prefer?

My most recent bag is micro chipped but my SA couldn’t scan the date code (she tried with a hand scanner and a bigger scanner in the backroom). I feel bad that she spent like 15 minutes trying and may have even asked someone else to try so I told her I would check it the next time I am in store. The Kirigami I got at the same time had the actual date codes inside. I can’t remember if I read somewhere that there’s a software we can download to scan our items ourselves (?).

On Android there is a NFC Tools app that will scan the chip (probably a similar one exists for iPhone). The info that you get is just some serial codes though and probably don't have any value to the end customer.

Personally it doesn't matter to me too much. I buy from the store mostly so I don't worry about fakes. I guess I would only worry trying to sell my bag or if I wanted to buy 2nd hand. Though I do like looking at the date code just to see when/where it was made.

Which won’t?

i remember it was posted on LV facebook group, but some members could not get the microchip authenticated without a date code. i don't remember which sites they tried to authenticate from. i know Mercari will not authenticate without a date code. the REAL REAL also is not accepting LV items without date code right now too.

overall, the microchip is harder to sell if we cant get authentication and even some second hand consignment stores are not taking microchip bags.

so i've stopped buying LV since i dont want to be stuck with something hard to sell if i outgrow a bag in a few years.

Yes! This exact same thing happened to me this weekend when I purchased my Boulogne bag in store. I asked them to scan it so I knew when it was made and they tried multiple times with multiple people but the only data that came up was that it was authentic. They said the chip must need to be reprogrammed for the date. My choices at that point were to send it in for "repair" or try to get a new bag. I just told them as long as I won't have any issues down the road such as bringing it in for repair etc.. and that it was authentic, then that was fine with me. All the same I definitely prefer the old date code tags. The SA mentioned that the fakes are already replicating the chip system.

I did notice and someone mentioned here the tag that comes with the item does have the date code on it..
Oh really, I didn’t know that. Interesting. I usually never look at the stickers and tags that come with them. My neverfull doesn’t have a date code and neither will the graceful I just ordered. I’ll have to pull out the tags from my neverfull to see if a date is on it. Thanks for the tip.

Honestly I see not much pros. But when your shopping at LV, your going to have a piece of mind that it authentic, regardless with the old or new system.

My newer purchase all have chips and honestly don’t bother me. I do missed about checking to see if your purchase was a fresh batch or a older batch.
