Hi guys would like to share some of your thoughts on Louis Vuittons new microchiped bags.

I have just bought a new bag from a designer website and it has the microchip in it and just wondered the pros and cons.

The biggest (and really only) con for me about not having date codes is having to rely on going into an LV boutique to find out what year the bag was made in. In most situations it wouldn’t matter, but say you’re looking to buy a preloved bag, and there are certain years there are known canvas or glazing issues. You would want to avoid buying those years, and you wouldn’t be able to easily find out what year it was made before buying.

That's interesting. I don't know what other people's experience has been, but here in the UK, I haven't always received that tag when I buy new from LV. In fact I've rarely had it -- I always get the little card that says what the item is made of, but not usually the white tag that has the model number on it and is specific to that item. I've found this to be the case both when buying in store and online.

i'm one that voted on the microchip, purely for the sole satisfaction that it's one more thing for counterfeiters to try to combat. like, what will they do? continue to do date codes? purposefully age their vachetta to match the date codes? or input a chip to try to point to similar info? i never looked at date codes when i bought stuff, it's just fun to have i guess, but times are changing and it doesn't really have any big impact on my experience.

With most of my items from online and in the store, I have been receiving the tag with the date code info. I am in the US.

Maybe I'm being greedy. but I'd like both...
On one hand, I think the microchips will be harder to fake, so would mean it was instantly clear whether a bag was a fake if it didn't have a chip (but presumably they could only be checked at an official store, or maybe official authenticator? Is the intention to have official authenticators? If so, LV will potentially have more control over prices on the secondhand market, if they control who gets authentication devices?)....

But on the other hand, the date codes feel timeless and wonderfully 'old school' to me - I love knowing when and where a bag was made. That said, if it's on the bag's label, that's good enough, as I store those inside the bag mostly anyway...
