Khloe Kardashian Talks Khroma Beauty, Mascara & More

On Friday night—right after ogling some gorgeous Victoria's Secret models on Instagram and just before heading to a tacky sweater party (natch!)—we met up with Khloe Kardashian-Odom in the Presidential Suite at the Gansevoort Hotel to learn more about the Kardashian sisters' cosmetic line, Khroma Beauty.

We sat around a table filled full of Khroma goodies, like honey-infused lip glosses ($8.99), which hit ULTA stores in February:

"Kardazzle" face palettes ($12.99, currently at Ulta.com), each of which corresponds to one of the sisters—see Khloe's, Kim's, and Kourtney's respectively:

And piles of mascara, including Khloe's absolute favorite product from the entire line—a volumizing mascara called "Stroke of Midnight" ($9.99, currently at Ulta.com).

"I love the Stoke of Midnight, because I love that the bristles are firm," Khloe said. "They really coat! Sometimes when they're too soft, they don't separate your lashes enough. And I don't like really chunky lashes, I like them to be a little more wispy."

See the golden tube, below:

"I literally don't let any makeup artist put on my mascara," she continued. "I do it myself. I just have to. It takes me just a minute, I start from the inner corner, and do one coat. Then I'll let it dry and do another coat because I think it adds to that layer... I just like volume. The bigger, the better!"

We're obvs obsessed with Khloe's lashes—there's a whole lookbook dedicated to her makeup on our site—but what we really covet (beside her amazing raven locks) is her glowy, wrinkle-free skin. And surprisingly, her skincare routine doesn't include some obscure $10,000 treatment, in fact, you probably have a tub of her secret stuff in your bathroom cabinet right now.

"I put Vaseline or Aquaphor on my eyes every night before I go to sleep," she said. "I also get really dry around my nose, so I dab it on there, and I put it on my feet—with socks!"

Then, naturally, the convo took a twist to Khloe's pro-basketballer hubby, Lamar Odom, who apparently has quite an extensive skincare regimen of his own.

"The guy [Lamar, obvs] washes his face where it suds like crazy, and scrubs his whole bald head!" she gushed. "I mean, I didn't know that people washed their whole bald head, but he'll have his eyes open while he's doing it. I'll be like 'How are you doing that?!' He'll just talk to you, it's cute!"

And as far as sibling rivalry goes, one question was burning on all our minds, do you care if your sisters' eye palettes do better than yours? For being the baby sis of the trio, her answer was shocking civil:

"No, I really don't care!" she said. "I secretly have Kim's palette in my purse because on X Factor last night, I was wearing darker colors, so I grabbed Kim's in case I needed a touch up. I don't really care, though. I think they're all great, they're totally different palettes, so if you're into a darker moment, that's totally the palette you should have!"

Finally, when our convo was all said and done, we got the red carpet treatment—eyelashes like a Kardashian, anyone?—and a snap with Khloe, herself! Check it out:

Which sisters' beauty look are you most obsessed with—Kourtney, Kim, or Khloe? Do you plan on giving any of their beauty products a try? We've got to say, we're pretty much in love with Kim's "Kardazzle" palette!

Khloe Kardashian Talks Family Beauty Secrets and Khroma Makeup Line
By Lindsey Schickner
12/03/12 at 02:30 PM

24plwuv.jpg

Khloe Kardashian's Khroma Beauty ad.

"The three of us were all practically born with a sultry smoky eye. Makeup has just always been a passion of ours," laughed Khloe Kardashian.

"I remember when I was allowed to wear only eye shadow starting in the sixth grade, but I took it to a crazy level and I put blue shadow up to my eyebrow and my mom was like, 'Ok no more makeup.'" Khloe talked to an intimate group of beauty editors about the sister's new Khroma collection.

With the signature Kardashian airbrushed complexion and fiercely long lashes, Khloe talked about the Khroma beauty line and what it means to the reality power trio and their collaboration dynasty. With champagne flowing and a table of metallic-colored beauty products in front of us, we sat in the same luxe suite in NYC's Gansevoort Hotel where 'Kourtney and Kim Take New York' was filmed.

For the collab crazy family, it took time for a beauty line to really stick. How did Khmroma evolve?
We've always been in love with makeup and wanted to be involved in beauty. It's something that is so natural to us. For years, we had been offered to do a makeup line, but it was more, lend us your name and we'll do everything for you, but that's not at all how we work. For example, we've had our Dash stores for 10 plus years and we still do the buying ourselves, check on each store once a month, and that's just what we do.

With Khroma, we finally found the perfect fit. My sisters and I are very hands on. We want to be involved in everything from the formulas and the packaging to the lettering, the font, the price point and the name.

For us, its also so important to be a brand for our fans, to have it be affordable and have it be things that we love. We've been blessed to have the power of social media to get feedback on what our fans really want. Makeup can be intimidating if you don't know how to use it We've had the luxury of having makeup artists show us the tricks of the trade.

What is your favorite product in the line?

My sisters love eyelash strips, so that was their baby. The eyelashes are very Kourtney and Kim and the mascaras were more my baby. Im crazy about my mascara. That's my one go-to makeup want in my bag at all times. You end up getting three women that are crazy about makeup in different ways mixed into one fabulous line.

What is your mascara routine?

I literally don't let any makeup artist do my mascara. It's my thing and it takes me a minute to do. I start from the inner and lashes and move outward. I let it dry and then I always do another coat. I always like to try new mascaras and see what works, and it helps with creating the best products for this collection.

In terms of the mascara, I needed it to have a great wand. I don't get those gimmicky wands that vibrate. The bristles are firm so they really coat from inner to the outer. When they are too soft, they don't separate your lashes enough and I don't like really chunky lashes, I like them a little wispy. I love volume, the bigger the better.

What beauty memories do you have from growing up with Kim and Kourtney?

Kim has always done amazing makeup. I can't tell you when I ever thought Kim's makeup was bad but Kim is very critical of herself, so she wouldn't agree. I've never seen someone could be in makeup from 6am to 6pm and it looks like she just had he makeup done and I don't know why that is. That b*tch.

What is your skincare routine?

It's boring but I put Vasaline or Aquafor around my eyes before I go to sleep. In my head, it makes me feel like I wont get wrinkles there.

Does Lamar have a particular skincare routine?
He has a crazy skincare routine. He uses Kiehs and washes his whole bald head. He suds his head and opens his eyes while doing it.

Does Lamar like your makeup any particular way?

He likes when I wear a bright lip. Sometimes he''ll say 'I love you but I can't kiss you right now or I'll get red all over my face. Bit it's funny, you can tell when we have a moment, because he'll have a little white nose from my powder. No one notices but Kim will email me and be like, 'There you go, you did it again.'

Launched recently at 4,500 stores including Ulta, Sears, Duane Reade and CVS, the products are flying off the shelves. Check out all the products on Sears!

The Secret to the Kardashian Nude Lip
Dec 3, 2012 @ 2:10 pm

Dimitrios Kambouris/WireImage

A nude lip can balance a dramatic eye or make an elegant statement on its own—beauty rules the Kardashian sisters know and live by. At a recent launch event for the Kardashians’ new beauty line Khroma Beauty, we caught up with Khloe to find out just how she gets it so right. “It’s so funny what lip liner does for you! I always make sure to trace around my lips with a slightly darker color than my lipstick,” she told InStyle.com. “A lot of people think lip liner is old-school, but if you want your lips to look pouty and perfect, that’s the trick.” Khroma includes an all-in-one set in three versatile buff tones, perfect for nailing the look. An easy way to find your perfect hue is to use the natural color of your lips as a guide, veering no more than two shades lighter or darker. “A good nude color for me might not be the same as Kim’s or Kourtney’s since they are darker than I am, but a nude lipstick can’t be too pale, otherwise it looks chalky,” she added. Shop Khroma’s Nude Lip Set for $15 at ulta.com and at Ulta stores.

Khloe Kardashian Talks Mascara, Makeup, and the New Khroma Beauty Line

Along with sisters Kim and Kourtney, Khloe debuted the new Khroma makeup line and explains the one product in the collection that she can't leave home without.

Khloe Kardashian’s love of makeup came from an unlikely source: her father.

For Christmas one year, Robert Kardashian gifted his three daughters, Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe, makeup lessons by the famed Joe Blasco. Because Khloe was the youngest, she had to wait until she turned 16. Up until then, Khloe was only allowed to wear eye shadow. “I went a little buck wild and applied blues all the way up to my eyebrows,” she said.

When her sweet sixteen rolled around, those Christmas makeup lessons given by her father were a game-changer. “It was such a fun and cool Christmas gift that I don’t think a father would typically give to his children,” said Khloe, who also credits her mother, Kris Jenner, for giving important lessons about beauty.

Creating Khroma Beauty
Now, Kardashian has introduced Khroma Beauty, a makeup collection she and sisters Kim and Kourtney created with licensing and branding company Boldface Group. The line, which debuted in November and will continue to roll out through February, includes plenty of glosses and lashes (cornerstones to nailing the Kardashian look) as well as highlighter, bronzer, lip color, and palettes. Most of the products in Khroma are less than $10.

“With BoldFace we were finally able to have such an amazing team that would let us be hands-on in the process,” she said. And hands-on they were. While the sisters had a say in everything from the packaging to the name (Khroma reflects the Kardashian’s desire of having all chrome and rose gold-type packaging), each had their own passion area. “Mascara is the one thing I’ll never leave home without,” Khloe admitted. “The Armenian in me has blessed me with great eyelashes so I want to embrace that.”

While she concentrated her attention on mascara (Khloe now uses Khroma’s Stroke of Midnight mascara every day), Kim and Kourtney dealt with creating the collection’s false lashes. “My sisters love strips so that’s where they took over,” Khloe said. “Also Kourtney was looking for a red or coral lip color to match her nail color that she loves. So we were able to create that shade for her in our Joystick glosses.”

While the sisters certainly have a dedicated fanbase (Khloe alone has nearly eight million followers on Twitter), Khroma isn’t about copying the Kardashian style. “We want our fans to be able to not be afraid to play with makeup,” she said. “If you want to try a bright bold lip or lashes, you want to be able to do so and not worry about breaking the bank.”

After all, experimenting with different makeup looks (even blue eye shadow) is true to the Kardashian way. “We’ve always been in love with makeup,” Khloe said. “It’s fun. It’s part of being a girl.”

Khloé Kardashian Has No Idea How Kim Keeps All That Makeup On
by Megan Segura

Khloé Kardashian Has No Idea How Kim Keeps All That Makeup On
by Megan Segura

December 3rd, 2012

Whether you love them or hate them, there’s no denying the Kardashian sisters have maintained their star status for longer than anyone ever expected. Their empire has now expanded into the beauty world with the introduction of Khroma Beauty, a new range of makeup and palettes made with their fans in mind (translation: wallet-friendly price points).

I sat down with Khloé Kardashian, the newest X Factor co-host, to discuss all things Khroma — from kolor to koncept to the Kardazzle palette. While I already know way too much about her through the family’s reality shows, a few revelations surprised even me:

1. While Kim is known for her huge false lashes, Khloé doesn’t wear them.
As much as her sisters love wearing false lashes, Khloé doesn’t like them: “They kind of irritate my eyes.”

2. The Stroke Of Midnight mascara is her favorite product in the Khroma Line.
Because she can’t wear falsies, Khloé focused on making a great mascara, which she admits was the hardest product in the line to get right.

“I needed to have a great wand. You know those gimmicky wands? I mean, to each their own, but those vibrating wands? What does that do for you? I don’t want a shaky hand applying my mascara, but it is all about a wand in my opinion.”

“I love the Stroke Of Midnight ($9.99, ulta.com), because I love that the bristles are firm, so they really coat from the inner part of your eye to the outer. I don’t really like chunky lashes. I like them wispy.” After experimenting with it, I have to admit it is a pretty great mascara.

3. Lamar Odom is more obsessive about his skin care routine than his wife is about hers.
While Khloé admits to applying Vaseline or Aquaphor around her eyes before bedtime (“In my head, it makes me not have wrinkles there”), Lamar is the one who is zealous about good skin care.

“Lamar has a crazy skin routine. He loves Kiehl’s — it’s the blue bottle [Facial Fuel For Men]. The guy washes his face where it suds like crazy and he does his whole bald head. He’ll open his eyes while he does it and will talk to you. He’s obsessive about washing his face.”

4. Khloé isn’t as competitive with her sisters as you would think.
Each of the Kardashian sisters have their own version of the Kardazzle ($12.99, ulta.com), a small palette that includes a blush, a shimmer, a highlighter and eye shadows. When asked if Khloé hopes hers will sell best, she said, “No, I really don’t care. I actually have Kim’s palette in my purse right now from X Factor last night. I was wearing darker colors so I brought Kim’s in case I needed a touch up. I think they’re all great. They’re totally different palettes, but I do think all the colors work well together.”

5. But there is one thing Khloé can’t stand about Kim…
“I can’t tell you when I’ve ever thought Kim’s makeup was bad. I’m very oily, I need to powder. It will shift a little. Kim will go from 6 AM to 6 PM and look like she just had her makeup done, and I don’t know why that is. Kim’s such a *****!”

Khloe Kardashian On Khroma Beauty, Biggest Beauty Regret & Lamar’s Grooming Obsession
a2rvo8.jpg

On Friday night I had the opportunity to hang out with Khloe Kardashian at the Gansevoort Park to learn about the Kardashian sister’s new makeup line, Khroma. Now, she’s my favorite Kardashian. She’s real, funny, down to earth and only uses her baby voice when she speaks of Lamar, which is kinda cute. Here’s the 411 on their new cosmetic line, Khloe’s biggest beauty regret, must-have beauty product and of course, some scoop on her hubby.

Surprised the Kardashian’s didn’t launch a cosmetic line sooner? So am I. Makeup has always been something the Kardashian’s wanted to be involved in, turns out they were waiting for the right fit. ”We’ve been offered to do a line for years, but the companies all wanted us to lend our name and do everything ,” Khloe commented. ”That’s not how we work.”

acy1rs.jpg

The sisters were involved with everything form the formulas to the packaging, font and name, which they brainstormed at the Soho House and stemmed from a doodle Kim drew on a note pad. Khroma means color and the packaging is chrome, so it made sense.

Beauty Must Have
While the lash strips may be Kourtney and Kim’s must-have in the line, it’s the mascara that Khloe claimed as her baby. ”I’m very crazy about my mascara. It’s my one go-to makeup need in my bag.” While she has the luxury of working with makeup artists all the time, she never allows them to apply her mascara. It’s not that she has any fancy tricks, she’s just so particular she knows how she likes it. Khroma’s A Stroke of Midnight is favorite.

2sal10y.jpg

Beauty Regret
Remember the ‘Single Ladies’ photo shoot the Kardashian sisters did for People when Kourtney was about nine months pregnant? It resulted in Khloe’s biggest beauty regret! ”I had a pompadour and harsh makeup, which was great for a photo shoot, but that’s where it should have stayed,” she stated. After the photo shoot she had to walk a red carpet with Kim and didn’t adjust her look. A mistake she definitely learned from. ”In the photo it was cool and you understood it, but on the red carpet it didn’t translate and I wish I could have told everybody why I looked like that.”

29b0vv4.jpg

Lamar’s Grooming Obsession
Did you ever see the episode where Khloe gives Lamar a pedi? Well turns out Lamar is s sucker for grooming. He loves Khiels, the Facial Fuel line and Khloe laughed as she described how he washes his face. ”He’s obsessed with washing his face and his bald head,” she explained. Who knew that guys without hair look at their heads as an extension of their faces?

Khroma Beauty is available at Ulta, CVS and other retailers with price points ranging from $7 – $20.

Khloe Kardashian Explains Lawsuit-Ready Khroma Beauty Name
Monday, December 3, 2012, by Lilit Marcus

Khloe Kardashian, via GettyThe Kardashian sisters' new beauty line, Khroma, is now in stores. But before the line even launched, there was already kontroversy. Michael Rey, who owns an L.A.-based beauty brand called Chroma, is suing the Kardashians for stealing his name and confusing his customers. At a launch party for Khroma last week, asked Khloe Kardashian herself where the name for the makeup line came from.

"We were at SoHo House, having a meeting [with the co-creators of the line]. We were talking, going over ideas, and Kim was doodling on a paper. We were literally throwing out names ... we were saying we wanted the packaging to be metallic, chromes, we were going to do these colors, but also gold and rose gold in all of our packaging, chrome colors. We didn't know that she was so artistic!

Kim started doodling the word 'Khroma.' We were writing down all the names, and everybody left, and there was this piece of paper on the table with her doodles on it, and we took it and brought it back with us and thought 'Hmm, this could actually work as a logo.' The name, I think, all three of us decided we wanted metallics in the packaging. Chroma means "color," that's where the word comes from."
