The Kelly that gives that ultimate casual cool vibe

What I like about Tanker toad’s pics from IG is that the ladies are carrying the larger size kellys. I was never into the smaller kellys - my smallest is a 28 and I prefer the 32 - so I do love these pictures. I would suggest that these ladies close their bags. I am not a fan of the Kelly hanging open this way for practical reasons as in things could fall out.

Why does casual always seem to mean carried open?

No way could anyone walk around all day in London with their bag hanging open - let alone what it does to the bag (different thread)

Gold or Etoupe Togo/Clemence Retourne in not too small a size worn without ceremony and voila, casual cool!
YES! YES YES! I get a so annoyed when I see this-Its a Kelly not a Birkin!
I'd be inviting misfortune if I carried a Kelly like that in London.
I also think that a large size Sellier Box Kelly can still look cool in a modern casual way worn with the right things.
I say because I tried one in the store just for fun with a oversized cashmere sweater, wide leg leather pants and Birkinstocks and I was shocked at how well it sat with such a relaxed outfit.

I think that a bag carried open gives that careless look. The whole I'm enjoying my life so much right now, I don't care about my belongings swinging out / I paid a lot for this bag and to me it's just a bag.

Then again, casual can be a lot of different things to a lot of different people. I can remember a picture of a girl with a patterned dress, a vest and an crossbody kelly that just look so casual. While the picture above my comment, to me, doesn't scream casual. She imo wears an elegant bag with sportswear and high heels. That doesn't feel casual but so try hard and mis matched. While others might feel the first picture to dull and the second a breath of fresh air.

I can also imagine a lot of photo's being staged. That someone has an open bag in a photo, doesn't mean that they actually walk around with it. How much I love the look of open bags, I always think about what it does to the bag to.

Loads of great pictures in this thread! Thank you everyone, it's quite inspiring.

That's my beef with an open Kelly. Careless, not carefree. As in, trying too hard to show one doesn't care about material goods that cost as much as a (compact and probably second-hand ) car.

Max, sounds like (my) perfect relaxed-casual-Kelly style.
:girlsigh:

Agree that "staged" comes into focus loud & clear..
I live in the NYC vicinity & I rarely see gals walking around with their bag open like this
but when the "camera" is looking, who knows!!

It is so good that someone states that as plainly as this.
It's all very well to pose in the safely of their own home
but casually wearing a bag outside open to anyone is sheer stupidity.

I agreed, I think most of these photo ops are staged.

It gives that running, busier-than-busy from Uber to important meeting vibe, or too rich/lazy to care in pictures

Not babying possessions nor worrying about what others think denotes a cool casual vibe.
And, let's face it, it's fashionable.

On the other hand, many who've experienced being a victim of pickpocketing say there is a feeling of violation. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Most thieves are opportunists.
