The Dumbest Reason You Ever Gave For Buying a Bag

Loving this thread!

Like I need an excuse LOL, but here is some of the careful reasoning I've fallen for.

a) I already have 3 of those bags in different sizes/colours, this one will make the 'collection'

b) That's the vintage original of the bag I just bought new. I'd be so cool to have both.

c) I need to replace the Jackie I just gave to my niece with another.

d) I need to corner the market in vintage Hermes bags made from leathers they no longer make (ongoing).

e) I actually thought I needed a bag in yellow coz I thought it was the only colour I didn't have. Turned out I already owned a Sergio Rossi yellow clutch I'd forgotten about.

f) It's only the same green shade, not like it's the same bag in exactly the same green shade.

Not mine, but a funny one I see a lot is "I need an Hermes from the year I was born".
+1 for b), c), and d). :D

I’ve thought something similar with the full-size version of miniatures I’ve bought. DH manages to stop this by pointing out I won’t use it and could be buying something for the dogs instead and it’s impossible to argue with that reasoning.

Had to buy it since:

1) it’s a good promo/discount
2) it’s the one that got away
3) it’s in good condition for the price
4) it’s already discontinued/limited edition
5) it’s good to have another colour
6) I don’t know when I’ll find one again
7) I’m just greedy guts
Hmmmm…. I actually think a couple of these are good reasons.

2) If you missed something you really craved and would use, I think it’s a great thing to find (and buy) it later.

5) I tend to buy multiples when I find a certain bag “works”. Those purchases tend to have a higher successful rates than me diverging greatly from my norm.

:flowers:

I wanna know what super gym membership costs more than a Birkin.
The Knight has been dragging me to a bouldering gym. Pretty bare bones when it comes to amenities (converted warehouse) but the people are top notch.
I often joke “do only beautiful people come here, or does the pretty kick in after a year?” Everyone is kind, and beautiful, and it feels really covid-safe (they open the walls so there’s excellent circulation and frequent cleaning)

I’ve been debating getting a membership there; but it is $3k a year.

If you love it, go for it! I personally love bouldering / rock climbing for fun and exercise!

A few thousand a year is not unheard of for a gym like Equinox, etc. I was just wondering what non country club associated gym cost per year more than a Birkin. Not saying they don’t exist but they certainly aren’t common. If there is one in my city, I’d go check it out.

Because it reminded me of a bag I had when I was in college…. :girlsigh:

Entirely ignoring the fact that back then my hair was dark and I still had my own teeth! :roflmfao:

 I can do one better: because it reminded me of the weird-looking bags I carried in high school and which scattered everything on the school hallway floor whenever I dropped them. I was 50 years old at the time I used that rational.

Then I started searching for the strange color of turquoise nail polish I used to wear in high school while carrying the bag. Kind of pathetic really, but I suppose it's better than a full-blown mid-life crisis.

OK, now I gotta know what kind of bag that was ... I can "hear", in my mind's-eye, that sound of your items hitting the hallway floor, how weird is that. That must be a universal memory of all teenagers in high school. We were certainly all clumsy and not in control of ourselves.

In the past few years I've often thought of the lovely purple leather envelope bag that I carried in high school ... I'll not say how many decades that bag preceded the 'pouch' craze. I did use that as a dumb reason to get a pouch (DL's BV) but ultimately ended up with a Mansur Gavriel Cloud Clutch, and that actually worked out - love that bag (it's one of my 12*). Unfortunately, not in a color I can carry right now, in winter. Didn't love the DL version of the pouch bag (too big).

*12 - yes, I closed out on that number 12/31/21. My New Year's Resolution: No bags for 2022, don't need any more. Nope.
