This morning I was thinking I might take my Mulberry Ledbury to work to get some use out of it. At the last moment, I decided to stick with my oldie-but-goodie Boss satchel for whatever reason (maybe because I love it?).
Later at work, I managed to spill half a bottle of strawberry soft drink into my bag - everything was soaked; makeup bag, sunglasses + case, agenda, wallet, keys...and the bag. The lining was completely wet at the bottom.
After a lightning-fast rinse-and-dry operation, everything was saved and the bag was also relatively OK. There's still some sticky stuff at the bottom lining but the leather was uncompromised. It's a miracle since the bottle was in my bag, sideways and cap half open, for more than 10 minutes...

Later, it hit me - had I not changed my mind at the last minute and stuck with the bag I did, my light colored, unlined Mulberry bag would have had it! :faint:

Has something like this ever happened to you?

Every time I look out the window and see rain, I go back inside and swap out whatever bag I was originally carrying for the tried-and-true Speedy. But I can't think of any dramatic stories like yours! Thank goodness your Mulberry was alright!

I also always swap out what I planned on carrying for my LV canvas bag if it is raining or even if there is a high chance of rain. Better safe than sorry.

Great thread!

When the storms roar down from WTF Mountain, I usually have nice bags with me.
This is why collonil leather care products are my buddies.
And why I don't dare tempt the hairy fangs of fate by carrying bottled liquids.

I did almost plunge head-first into a waterfall fountain with mulberry bag.
This involved some foolish jumping, running, giggling & wanting to get a piece of cloth wet enough to tie to a tree.
In general, no bag is safe around my terrible decisions. Tragic.
See collonil thing, above.

I do draw line @ travel with fancy bags.
Because I tend both to get lost & muddy. And to carry bottled liquids.
Fate only will wash so much of my nonsense, before biting. And ballistic nylon is much chewier on airplanes. ;)

Hope answers & helps. :)

I also don't "dare tempt the hairy fangs of fate" by carrying bottled liquids though I would NEVER have thought to use such prophetic language.............well done!!!!! Your comments are always most interesting.

This is one that makes me thankful I don't usually carry designer bags to the office. One morning when I was particularly harried/running late, I was walking in while carrying my coffee, keys, lunch, etc., and I was still trying to put my keys away as I walked. My hands were full, though, so I had to keep trying to transfer all my stuff from hand to hand to open the purse.

Yup, you guessed it--one transfer went awry, and I spilled my coffee INTO my purse. Luckily it was from F21 and made of nothing but vinyl/plastic, so I was able to easily wipe it out without so much as a lingering smell. I do love the purse, so I was still grateful there was no harm done to it!

Ladies, thank you all for your input! It's so good to see I'm not alone - I tend to NOT try and tempt fate but I think I may be guilty of that exact thing...
Guess who was opening a bottle of Dr. Pepper yesterday with that same unfortunate Boss bag sitting on her lap, and guess what happened..? Yup, the bottle decided to spray its contents into the bag and onto my shirt! TWICE in two days! And the same bag involved as well! I think it might be best for me to stay home today, but duty calls - no soft drinks today, nothing but water! :lolots:

Hmm.
That decides it--bag is cursed.
My solution would be fire & running away.

One time I was going to a wedding and was going to carry my Speedy but then thought it might be difficult if there were finger foods/drinks as I didn't know if there was a sit down meal or not. So I changed to a small Kate Spade that was hands-free. It did turn out to be a sit down meal but some guy spilled a glass (thankfully white) wine into it when I was looking for Purell. I washed and dried everything in the bathroom and nothing was damaged, but I was thankful it wasn't my LV!

I went to an Hermes tPF meet in London and it looked like rain so I didn't take one of my H bags or my Gucci python Catherine that went so nicely with my outfit.

After lunch we walked down Sloane St (as in the middle of the road because the pavement/sidewalk was 'not available') through and past hundreds of demonstrating animal rights protesters outside Josephs (and ignoring Fendi on the opposite side of the road :shrugs: ) a couple with red paint in-hand...

I can't remember which bag I was wearing but I remember thinking how glad I was to have not brought the python

For surprise inclement weather, purse rain coats are a wonderful invention. https://www.shopbop.com/mini-handbag-raincoat/vp/v=1/1542270049.htm They're great to have on hand, especially for any lambskin bags.

I've never had an issue with bottled liquids spilling in my bag (knock on wood!) but I did have a date dump pasta down my LV Neverfull.

OMG, sounds like the date from hell! My guess is the date wasn't a keeper? Oh my, I'd probably dump the date and head straight home before they followed the pasta up with dessert! :faint:

I've been thinking about getting a rain mac for my Roseau tote for a long time now. I'd be able to carry it the year round.
