Tell Me About Your Experiences Carrying the Large Gramercy Bag

Should I keep or return the large oxblood gramercy bag?

  • Keep it, it is gorgeous, you love it, and you got it at a great price!

  • Return it, it is an uncomfortable bag to carry, price and looks don't matter!

  • Return it, I don't like the style of this bag!

  • Wait awhile before cutting the tags; take your time to decide!

You do realize there are three size Gramercy bags. The Mini Gramercy. The Large Gramercy. The Gramercy. You did not buy the Large. You bought the Gramercy that measures 13 1/2" (L) x 9 3/4" (H) x 6 1/4" (W). The Large Gramercy measures 15" (L) x 11" (H) x 7" (W).

Oh and I have two Gramercy bags in the same size as you and I love them and love to use them.

Oh! I was aware of the mini and the large; I did not realize that there was a medium size. This bag is about the same size as my Kristin Round Satchels and I consider them medium bags. Thank you!

She is tiny, the bag looks huge in her hands!

I have loaded it up with my usual stuff and it is a tight fit and the bag is heavy. I walk to and from the train station to travel to work, so weight is a concern for me. Although that hasn't always stopped me from carrying a bag that I love!

I have found that putting larger items like my wallet and mini-ipad and cosmetic case in the back compartment makes it easier to access the front zipper pocket; but it is still tight and I have already hit my thumb and the back of my hand on the turnlock a few times just getting in and out. That could get annoying but maybe I can learn to avoid that?

I have doubled the strap and that helps with the weight and the shoulder comfort. It leaves about a 10 inch drop which sounds fine but the satchel handle kind of gets in the way. It might be a tight fit when wearing a heavy winter coat.

:smile1:I got mine for the same price as you and love everything about it. I find it to be the same weight as my medium zippered boroughs and carry it almost always on arm and in hand.
I don't carry my mini ipad with me hardly (maybe in a city tote) since it would add weight, plus I clear out my change purse so that isn't heavy and don't carry many cosmetics just lip gloss.
I also use Coach conditioner on the leather to protect it.
I would buy another one of these in a heartbeat. You should try it with different outfits and think about it a bit before you return it , just to make sure you can part with it.
It is a nice looking bag that I have fun carrying, so it is not a work horse for me. I just like the design and structure of it, and definitely like satchels and shoulder bags equally.

Thanks for the pics, she looks great on you! I'm a shoulder bag girl and don't carry bags on my arm and I always take my mini-ipad with me so I can read on the train into the city but it does add weight.

Thanks also for your advice, I am considering it carefully and trying to think of when I will wear it and what outfits it will go with before I make a decision.

Well, I don't like this bag. While the look of it is lovely it would not be the bag for me, for all the reasons you stated. I think it's a tight fit, I personally would hate its functionality, and it would never work for me.

I voted return it. And move on. Do you have a Swagger yet? I love that bag!

You have to decide if you can live with it despite its challenges. Sometimes we love certain aspects of bags enough to overlook the difficulties.

I don't have a swagger and I am trying to decide if it would be a better fit for me. It looks easier to get in and out of but I have never been a fan of breakaway zippers; but then (as we have recently acknowledged) "no bag is perfect"!

I have the red currant Gramercy. I've had it since December. When I bought her, I took my time. I tried her on, put my things into her, carried her around the store. The smooth leather and the color sold me. I absolutely LOVE the smooth leather.
I guess it's considered heavy, but most of my bags probably are, so it's nothing I'm not used to. I have never hit my hand on the turnlock, and I'm fairly sure my hands are bigger than hers...lol.
It doesn't dig into my shoulder, quite the opposite. It's one of the few bags I own that I don't mind carrying on my shoulder with a long strap. I'm 5'2" and 140 lbs, so I'm short, but not tiny like the reviewer.
I voted for you to wait. I completely understand about it not being a bargain if it's not useable for you.
Not every bag is for everyone. I know there are bags that just don't work for me at all. The Ranger was one. I loved the leather on that bag, it was softer and thicker than the Gramercy, but those gorgeous chain straps just did NOT work for me.
Good luck with whatever you decide!
I have a Ranger sitting here with the tags still on. The chain straps seem like they will be a pain because I'll have to adjust them every time I pick it up and I imagine they will always be tangling up, but when I open up that bag and see that nice big open rectangle where everything will be visible and so easy to grab, I know I'll keep it.

I hate breakaway zippers too, but I've found it is only a problem on smaller bags. If the bag is wide enough and you can access your stuff easily without unzipping it all the way, then it isn't a problem. The small Candace didn't work for me, but the regular and large did for this reason. You can put a pin in the zipper if it tends to open all the way when you don't want it to. I don't need to do that with haircalf Candace. Sometimes these bags can be trained so the zipper will line up even if it is opened all the way. That happened to me with the 2007 Legacy satchel - it was weird how easy it was to rezip that one even after it separated.

I love the look of the Gramercy but I would be very concerned about the tight compartments and I wouldn't want to have to undo the side turnlocks to get to things. I would have to tendency to leave them undone and that would spoil the look of the bag. I wonder if there are similar problems with the Fendi.

The Swagger also has a snap tab that keeps the zipper from unzipping all the way. Sorry for the goofy arrows on my picture, but that's the tab. It works well. I'm not a fan of breakaway zippers either. It is a cool little detail!

I wonder if any sort of "stopper" could keep the chains in place? The tangling factor is what kept me from getting it. I can get anything tangled up in itself, it's like a talent I have. I knew I'd be in trouble with the Ranger.

I don't know, I am torn; let me know your opinion after you see the bag IRL. What color do you have on hold? Thanks!

I had the chalk croc on hold, and it is beautiful but I didn't love it. I do agree that the main turnlock is somewhat short, and I would really need to have both the side turn locks open to make it functional for me. Wasn't there a larger one also? I've not really being paying attention recently.

They had quite a good selection of deletes including the suede borough, the denim duffle, hair calf Cosby and Gramercy.

Once I saw the Oxblood Studded Edie, Ms Gramercy didn't stand a chance!

Glad you found Edie, thanks for letting me know!

How clever!

I could swear that someone used something to keep them from disappearing inside. We're taking a trip in a month or so and I'm saving it for then. I got the bronze so it will be a good neutral for traveling and the leather doesn't seem delicate. Maybe I'll bring some twisties to slip between the rings! I decided that it only looks good on me with the straps doubled.

I think someone said they used a large safety pin on each side under the flap to hold the chains from slipping in.
