Tell me about Etienne Aigner bags

I've a Aigner bag from maybe 4 years ago. Calf leather, croc embossed and still looks good. i believe they have developed a diffusion line which may explain why the price and quality seems to vary. Have seen their accessories and bags in European airports.

I agree, 15-20 years ago they were a vey good name in leather bags. I have just one, a black flap shoulder bag. I've probably had it at least a dozen years and I no longer carry it. But I hang on to it anyway. I can't speak for today's quality, but when I bought mine, it was considered to be quite a nice line.

I'm interested in seeing their new fall line. Their website was empty for awhile while it seemed like they were gearing up for a redesign of their bags, but it now seems like they are trying to portray themselves as more luxurious and more youthful even. I have an Etienne Aigner belt from my mom that is probably almost as old as I am, and I still remember my first purse, for dressing up when I was a pre-teen (a small burgundy shoulder bag) that was Etienne Aigner as well.

Its my mom's first designer bag from over 18yrs ago, it is still in her closet now, the quality is so great! I used to think it was gucci when i was young. I have one Etienne Aigner bag myself, its very adorable, affordable and roamy. Definitely worth buying! Its good for all kinds of events. This pic is my bag

Hmmmmmmmmm.............they certainly have 'upgraded' their look. And priced them accordingly.
I am not sure that is such a good thing though. There are plenty of other lines copying the 'it' bags. I liked EA when they were low price nice quality bags that didn't scream 'look who I am trying to be"
Aren't they offered on one of the shopping channels?

Yeah I saw some comments on their FB page to that effect--how old customers feel priced out. Honestly, the retail prices aren't outrageous, although I wonder if they will also be doing less discounting to go with their more upgraded look and quality. And they are sold on HSN and QVC, the older styles at least. I'm not sure about the new ones.

Who are they copying? I'm not familiar with a lot of the premier designers' styles.

I never had an EA bag but I had the most comfortable pair of brown dress/casual shoes. My dog must have known how much I loved them...because she ate the top of ONE. Now EA no longer even makes shoes. *sigh*

Vintage Aigner bags (back when the leather was top notch in their 70s and 80s heyday) are easily found on eBay and prices are VERY reasonable for the high quality. Some may even say "cheap," but don't let that fool ya. The bags wear like iron ... not anything close to the Etienne Aigner brand in the U.S. today. In high school in the early to mid-80s, Aigner's the only brand I carried cos the quality was excellence for the price point.

Years ago, Etienne Aigner bags were the Coach of the 60’s and 70’s. In the beginning, they were hand made and were all done in o blood leather. The branch in Munich was started in the early 80’s I believe, when an investor was able to get the company to give him the rights to open a branch in Europe. That branch is known as just Aigner, with no Etienne in the name. I believe this was a legal agreement between the American company the the European company. The inside tag in their bags is gold and just says “Aigner”. They are high end, luxury bags. Look up Aignermunich.com online. The quality is way up there, as is the price. The bags here in the U.S. have gone down in quality over the years. there are still many older, vintage and handmade bags for sale on Etsy, Poshmark, EBay, Tradesy, etc. Many of the original handmade ones have a tag inside that says “Hand made”. These are quality made bags, even now, and the leather is really nice. I love the old ones and have a few in my closet. Their shoes were once made in Spain, Italy, and Brazil, and were nice as well. You can find those on the same sites as the bags.
