Tank Francaise vs Datejust 31

I very much like the way the Rolex looks on your wrist! While I like the Tank Francaise, I feel it looks a bit small on you. And as another design consideration, I prefer a silvered dial (as the rolex appears to have) or more of a pure white dial with stainless steel. For that reason, I've always preferred the yellow gold Tank Francaise, as I think the creamy white dial better complements the warmth of the yellow gold. Best wishes with your decision! :flowers:

Rolex, but in Roman Numeral. Stick markers in that combination looks like an Omega at a glance.

1. Classic, never go out of style
2. Better resale value
3. Price increase is pretty constant
4. Model that you pick is easy to dress up or down

Why not the Cartier.

1. That size is too small, consider the medium
2. I feel that model is dated
3. Price increase is not so substantial compared to Rolex

Are you still considering JLC Reverso?

Thanks for the input. I don’t like the rolex roman numeral modes and only like the stick so that’s why I said it was between these two models only.

Interesting on the comments on the small TF being too small. I find anything bigger to be too big on me. I have very small wrists and arms and in person it looks correctly sized. I don’t like the way the medium TF looks on anyone in pictures.

No I am no longer considering the JLC. As much as I love it, I realized a leather strap is not practical for me for an everyday watch.

Thanks again to everyone for the input.

I have both of these watches. I'm on my third Tank. Without hesitation, the small Tank. The tank is simply a classic, can be dressed up or down. If, down the road, you want to add a sportier piece, go for the Rolex. Both of these are best in their class. You can't go wrong. Good luck.

I’m confused when you mentioned anything bigger than the small TF is too big. The Datejust 31 is bigger than the 26 or 28. Personally I think you carry the 31 well despite your wrist is small.

Since you are considering an expensive watch, there’s really no harm just to try out the medium TF as the looks of it on pictures can be deceiving.

It is easier to care for a bracelet than leather strap, JLC Reverso comes in bracelet too and you can opt for the leather to change the look. Just my two cents. [emoji846]

Thanks. I meant I don’t care for the TF in any size bigger on me. I can handle a slightly larger round watch. I just personally don’t like the TF in the medium size.

To clarify, I also don’t like the JLC Reverso bracelet, I think it is awful looking. If it was even remotely attractive to me that is what I would have gotten, but alas, it is not.

Like I said, I’ve tried everything on multiple times and been to many different stores. I have exhausted all options and these are the two that remain for me.

I think you are overwhelmed with the choices out there. As you are buying something expensive and if this watch is the one the only daily watch, then I guess you have to trust your instinct now, rather than our views. Usually when I want to get a new watch, I’ll be looking at what I have and what brand do I want to consider within my budget. From there I narrow down to my preference and try them to see if I like the look, size, weight etc. So far all my luxury watches represents an occasion [emoji846]

I hope you are able to decide when you ask ask your heart instead. [emoji6]

I love both watches. They are both classic so you won't make a mistake. It really comes down to the look you want and how you plan to wear it. The Rolex is more casual while the Tank is very flexible as it can go from casual to formal very easily. My advice is take your time to decide eventually you will lean toward one versus the other. The downside it takes time to decide. Good luck.

I’m looking to give myself a (late) 30th birthday gift of a daily watch that I hope will be my only watch for a long time. I was bouncing around between brands but have settled on the small stainless steel Tank Francaise and the Rolex Datejust 31 and would like input on what looks better. Please don’t recommend other models as I have been looking for years and it has taken me months to narrow it to these two.

I know there is a considerable difference in price and that one is quartz and one is automatic, but I’m really trying to base this decision on what will look best, both today and five or ten years from now, and what goes best with my style. I wear a small diamond half eternity band wedding ring and small diamond earrings and almost no other jewelry. My usual outfit is jeans, loafers or booties, and a neutral sweater (navy, black) or white button up, with the occasional stripe thrown in. I wear business casual occasionally but it is the same look but with black cropped pants subbed in for the jeans.

Wrist shots are attached. Thanks in advance!
This is a very tough choice! The tank is more delicate looking and dressy. I love the Cartier look, but concede that the Rolex may be more practical. Depends on your overall style. Happy Birthday!
