T&Co DBTY earrings vs Chanel bag for 30th Bday?!?!

+1 I agree that other brands make great quality bags too, but only Chanel make a Chanel bag; whereas it may be only you that knows the earrings are Tiffany. Which is totally fine if that's what you value, it's a lovely experience shopping there & if you're paying so much for an item, why not get the whole luxury experience.

I think someone else mentioned it too, in future do u see yourself upgrading from the 0.6tcw & wanting something bigger?

You'll probably get more use/wear out of the earrings and they'll probably last longer (Chanel bags are obv made to last, but diamonds will always outlast leather), but go with whichever make you feel happier.

Thanks so much for the input! I wouldn't want to upgrade later on bc I actually wanted to get the 0.6 ctw so that each earrings is 0.30 since I'm turning 30. And honestly, I don't really care for the experience even though I have a great SA. I actually prefer to get my stuff online but for this item, only stores carry it. I'm not one to prefer luxury brands when it comes to jewelry but I think the fact that this will be a set is what's making me stick with tiffanys. My SO and I have looked at engagement rings and I would never get it from tiffanys bc of the mark up...however, for this one I think I'm leaning towards going to tiffanys vs going to another jeweler bc of the set. But it's hard to swallow the price when I know I could get something bigger and maybe better quality elsewhere for the price.

I'd get the bag and then get earrings made by BGD with ideal cut stones for less money. No one will know they're not the Tiffany ones (Tiffany SAs always think mine are from there!) and you'll get AMAZING stones that will outshine the Tiffanys.

What does BGD stand for? I'm new to the whole fine jewelry world so I'm not very well versed. Thank you!

Brian Gavin Diamonds. Online based diamond vendor that cuts their own stones to ideal specs. You can get a pair made that is .30 per ear, select the stones yourself to your specs (I can help you with that, if you would like).

Here are mine, though mine are smaller (I like tiny studs), mine are .15 per ear so .30 total.

Thank you! I mentioned them because I think in THIS instance, it's really worth a consideration to skip the brand to get the studs you want AND get the bag of your dreams!

Oh they are gorgeous! I'll def have to look into this brand...thank you so much!

I think diamond earrings are a better gift to mark a special birthday than a bag. And you will get more use out of them...I wear my Tiffany DBTY studs everyday (in my second holes, I change the earrings in my first holes). I literally never take them off!! They go with everything. I wouldn't worry to much about which holds its value more, buy what you like, as if this is marking your 30th birthday I'm assuming you wouldn't be reselling in the future.

Thank you! Yeah, I def wouldn't be reselling it in the future nor will I be upgrading bc the 0.30 represents my 30th birthday. Can I ask you if you regret buying the DBTY earrings? If you could do it again, would you rather get something larger or less expensive for the same thing?

Thank you so much for all the inputs! After much thought, I decided to pass on the Tiffany earrings...at least for now. I'm gonna look into other brands and jewelers to see if I could get it for less. In the meantime, my search continues!

I would love a small pair of ideal diamond studs in platinum (allergies) but BGD doesn't seem to offer stones small enough to fit my budget on their stone finder, and Tiffany, etc. are also out if my price range.

My friend has a lovely pair of earrings from Blue Nile, but the post is much thinner than my current earrings (Tiffany YG) despite being a friction back, not screw back or pressure backs.

I love your earrings, AME! I'd probably want traditional four prongs, though, similar to the Tiffany that I love but cannot afford as a single mama.

I love jewelry, Tiffany and I love Chanel so this would be a tough decision for me. With that being said, I would get the Chanel bag and, as other posters have mentioned, get DBTY studs from Brian Gavin for better quality but way cheaper than Tiffany.

My engagement ring is from them and my stone is a sparkler, outshining all of my friends diamonds. If you call BGD they can source their own ideal cut melee stones for smaller studs.

Can't wait to see what you get.

Happy Birthday :happydance:

If you email BGD them or even open up the chat page on their website, they can quote you on smaller stones. I just did it myself last month. :smile1:

Although I am a guy and wouldn't know about girls. I feel I do! Girls always love clothes, bags, purses, wallets, jewelry and DIAMONDS!!! [emoji184] diamonds are a girls best friend! Lol. I would go for something sparkly an invest in the diamond earrings! Chanel bags are always in stock unless you have a limited edition! Plus the value will always go down unless it's something limited edition. But who am I to know, I'm just a guy! Hopefully that helps! GL and thanks

I would vote for jewelry but the size you are considering ..you would want to upgrade in future. I wouldn't go less then .50 for nice studs.

So my vote goes to Chanel.

Congratulations on your grad and happy birthday
