Successful purge of my handbag collection

Having come to realize there were loads of bags in my collection that no longer saw the light of day, and wanting to splurge on a couple of designer bags, I took the plunge and had a ruthless sort out of my bags. Those that had not been used for at least a year or that didn't spark any enthusiasm when removed from their dustbag were put in the "exit" pile.

You've done a great job. I need to do the same with both bags and clothes. And the whittled down collection of bags looks really nice.

I don't know if it's because I'm getting older or that I'm getting more used to having luxury items, but I now feel like I'd rather have a few very well made items (bags, shoes, clothes and jewelry) rather than a whole lot of lower end stuff cluttering up my living space.

I couldn't agree more. I have culled my wardrobe quite dramatically, but, despite having fewer clothes and bags, I feel my outfits are more varied than before. When my wardrobe was bursting, I couldn't see half the stuff in there and ended up just rotating the same easy to reach / easy to co-ordinate clothes over and over again. Maybe it is an age thing - I have also found now that I'm "older" that I prefer having fewer possessions, but of really good quality.

Thanks! Did you reward yourself with something nice after your "major purge"?

not yet. I have a few things on my wishlist though. I'm trying to make myself get rid of another third. and I keep combing thru my collection and can't bring myself to get rid of anything else. Most of the bags I got rid of were bags I purchased at a very young age [late teens early 20's], and my taste has changed quite a big in almost 20 years, so they weren't too hard, others weren't hard because I have similar bags [from same collection] in same color or style, so I could narrow it down easier. Now I feel my collection is "bare bones" in that while I have bags that are similar in color, I basically only have one of each style [except a select few styles that are my faves]. and I'm scared if I reduce it anymore I'll miss the style, and won't be able to find it in the future.

If you use them all, you should definitely hold on to them. If you're not sure when was the last time you used some of them, you could take any bags that you feel you "should" get rid of, out of your closet and store them somewhere else. If an occasion occurs where you want to use the bag, you can retrieve it, but if bags are still in the other location after 3, 6 or however many months you decide, it's pretty obvious they are not "needed" and you won't feel so bad about letting them go.

that's a good idea. but basically, I use them all. but I'm sure if I look hard enough, I'll probably be able to find at least 10 I don't use, or haven't used in the last 3-6 months [not taking into account seasons]
