There has also been a common misconception among many older women that after a certain age their jewelry will be assumed to be real, so it seems to get bigger and bigger. Granted, it is NOT always the case that an older woman's jewelry will be real (or even that people will think it is), but many older women feel that way.
I always thought they wear bigger studs because the ears grow as we age. Cartilage continues to grow until the day we die, and the earlobes droop from gravity, therefore we have bigger ears in old age and possibly need bigger studs.
You nailed it, Lily!Or maybe older women are no longer self conscious and decide to do whatever the heck they like, and if they like wearing mind blowing large diamonds they'll do it. We only live once you know.
Or maybe because with aging, the complexion isn't as radiant as before .... and therefore the reliance on larger, more sparkly jewellery?
Oh god, I do hope the studs get bigger as I get older.
Oh, wait, were you talking about earrings? Never mind.
Carry on.
