Sue - Check out body piercing jewelry. My wife has a couple of pairs of threaded studs, intended for a labret piercing, she wears in her lobes when she doesn't feel like anything fancy, like when we're traveling. They are straight with a CZ on one end and a flat 'plate' on the other. She sometimes wears them for months at a time. Since they thread on they are very secure. You can get many types with anything from a gold ball to a diamond on the front. Straight barbells can also work. Go to a body piercing salon and see what they have.

Highly recommend Venus by Maria Tash. She has internally threaded earrings with an almost flat backing that is super comfortable and super secure. And they have so many different styles to choose from. Check them out when you get the chance. Their b&m store is located in nyc but they do have a website which you can order from.
I recently went through the custom earring process and my absolute must haves were:
1. Jumbo backs to avoid the earring drooping forward.
2. Earring must sit upright despite its size. Pet peeve is drooping earrings lol. - solution was Martini Studs so that the "v" sits nicely in the ear and is lower profile than a basket setting.
3. Thick posts (16 gauge instead of usual 20 or 22 gauge standard) to avoid the "cheese wire" effect.
If anyone is interested, I have had a lot of custom jewelry done by Ara of Princes Jewelers LA (https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrincessJewelersLA) and highly recommend him. His Etsy shop doesn't have many reviews yet as he is just starting an online presence but don't let that deter you.

Thanks so much hon! I have debated taking them out over the years as I age... not sure when I will take them out - after so many years of having them since my young and rebellious teens, I am somewhat attached to them.I love your piercings so much. So pretty.
I checked out their web site. Excellent! Looks like the threaded earrings with the flat back is what I'm looking for. Do you have earrings like this? Have you worn them for long periods of time? They certainly have lots of lovely styles.

I wear a Maria Tash Diamond Trinity in my second hole and I love it. I had been searching for the "perfect" second hole earring, and this is it. I wear the traditional, not the threaded, and it is completely comfortable, I haven't taken it off since I got it.
Customer service was great. I received it the next day (in NYC) and it was very easy to make a return when I needed to.
I wear a pair of their diamond studs in my second holes and keep them in 24/7. Have had them for 3 months now and they are very comfortable. Also have their traditional posts but don't find them as comfortable, although the traditional outs are easier to change out.
