Stretching ear lobes to wear large gauge jewlery?

Hi.

I have thought of stretching my ears a couple of times but have been put off by possibly not being able to wear "normal" earrings, which I love. So I have done the multiple earring route. To address this, can you buy "normal" earrings - say diamond studs - with thicker posts?

If the earrings don't have thicker posts, what do normal earrings look like in stretched holes (if it possible)... Could someone who has stretched their ears post some pics please.

thanks.

Ciao, Lisian

Lisian,

My husband just left for a weekend trip with my camera, so give me until next week and I can take some pics for you.

There are multiple ways that you can wear earings w/stretched lobes.

Unfortunately there are no "normal" diamond type earing w/larger posts, but there are what we in the body mod world call "bling" plugs.

^^These are just taste of what's out there.

I have several pairs of these below and wear "normal" earings with them, by simply piercing through the plug.

I did it but got bored after a while and stopped, my ears are really stretchy so it didn't hurt. Best thing to do is do it step by step and do not pierce your ears with a bigger gauge then the regular tiny hole to start. If you go past a 2 or 0 its less likely to close back up. With the smaller gauging you can just do it yourself but once you start getting into the bigger sizes, go to a piercer to get them to put a taper through.. also as your going up in size it helps to wear heavier stainless steel jewelry to make it easier to stretch to the next size.

Please help me understand?? why would you want to stretch your ear lobes? I assume you are not able to wear regular diamond studs etc., I have never heard of this before and I am very interested.

i stretched my earlobes in the 80's wearing big Janet Jackson hoop earrings. of course not on purpose. they have never healed, it looks like i have a line on each ear. i have to be very careful with my diamond studs. i didn't wear earrings for years, hoping they would heal...but they never did.

please don't do this. you will regret it someday.

I can sometimes admire tatoos or body piercings. eg Some men look absolutely hot if they have great bodies and that tatoo that goes around the arm. I also love Angelina Jolies tatoos. So Im not a prude, but I hate huge earlobes both natural or modified. I hate the dangly look of them, like a budah!!! Its just something I find very unattractive. To me long dangly earlobes look like a deformity or a sign of old age. It pulls the face down in terms of esthetics, and sometimes makes the person look unintelligent, even if he or she is not.

If I were you, I'd think long and hard about whether the perceived short term gain will outweigh the long term effects.

I'm a pretty open-minded person, but I know that, with changes in fashion, I would be sure to tire of any drastic modification (like this) before too long and as there would be no absolute guarantee that my earlobes would return to normal...

I've told this story once before, but I'll tell it again; I love tigers (surprise, surprise!) and my mother, who was a brilliant, highly trained artist, drew a beautiful tiger's face on the knee of my plaster cast, when I was a child.

I loved it, couldn't fault it, was highly complimented on it and thought I'd never tire of it. But after just 6 weeks of staring at it, morning noon and night, I'd had more than enough of it. The guy who removed my cast, asked if he could keep it; 'for his collection' LOL  and I was more than happy to let him!

As you can see from my avatar, I still love tigers, but I would never go as far as to permanently tattoo myself with one. Especially in a place that was highly inconvenient to hide.

You may think that you can hide your ears with your hair, but what if you want shorter hair when you're older, or enjoy wearing your hair up? Even if you don't mind hiding them with your hair forever - what if the wind blows and uncovers them?

You may be able to have them corrected, but do you really want to go through the risk, pain and expense of what is currently, avoidable cosmetic surgery and what if the procedure doesn't go as well as expected?

Also, be aware that as people grow older, earlobes enlarge and get thinner and saggier anyway. This modification will exacerbate the look of that and will probably have the effect of making you look older than you are.

My point is, that what seems like a great idea today may not seem so great next year, or in 5 or 10 years' time. You may very well have a greater tolerance to boredom than a 12 year old, but ask yourself, is it truly infinite? :shrugs:

Because it may need to be. :s

i love you. lol. no really you made a fantastic point especially with :You may be able to have them corrected, but do you really want to go through the risk, pain and expense of what is currently, avoidable cosmetic surgery and what if the procedure doesn't go as well as expected?

Hi again.

Just a reminder if you don't mind to 'hell_lo_kitty' to post some photos of your stretched lobes with quality jewellery (and any else who does the same)....

Thanks - really aprpeciated.

Ciao, Lisian x

Ok, I've taken some pictures. It's going to take me several posts to upload them all, I took 17 I think .

Before I do...

I would like to just restate "To Each Their Own." ;) I realize that 99% of society views stretched ears as ugly, wrong, stupid, etc, etc.

Now I'm not concerned about any comments, no worries, you can't and won't hurt my feelings and you can't say anything I haven't already heard before.

However, You can have your opinions , but please realize that I have my own. I feel that my ears are beautiful :p.

lisian_toh asked for a favor and I'm happy to help.

Thanks!!!!

Ok, here we go...

My ears go as follows from the bottom hole up my ear:

My left ear: 9/16 of an inch, 4ga, 8ga, 10ga, 14ga, 14ga, 14ga, 14ga, 14ga industrial

My right ear: 9/16 of an inch, 4ga, 8ga, 10ga, 14ga, 14ga, 14ga, 2ga large cartilage piercing

These are what I wear on an everyday basis. The 9/16th plugs are rose quartz.

I promise my ears are clean, but the one pic on the right looks really weird.

These plugs are my silicone "hider" plugs. I got them on sale, so they aren't really the right shade for my skin tone, but they're very good when I have my hair down. I will prob. buy another shade the next time they're on sale.

The last one is with a diamond earing "pierced" through the plug.

The next 3 are just random "dangle" earings I have, worn through the silicone plugs.

The next 5 are "bling" plugs.

These are like the ones I posted the links to. However mine are "cheap" versions that I can get half price from my husband's store.

The site I linked to has a sale every X-mas, so I'm waiting to buy some of the "nice" bling plugs when they are on sale.
