As some of you may recall, I purchased an 04 True Red First from TRR that was missing its shoulder strap. I went to look and almost immediately found what appeared to be the perfect strap!

An Etsy seller from China who goes by the name BtyByFlora and makes straps for Hermes bags that she says are made from swift leather. She has straps of various lengths, widths and colors and will customize according to your needs. She's extremely friendly and accommodating.

I decided I wanted a strap that was the same length as the flat brass firsts, which is approx 20 inches long rather than the shorter strap that typically comes with Firsts. I looked through her color choices, which appear to be shades of Hermes bags. Unfamiliar with Hermes, I sent her a few photos of my bag and asked her which shade she though would be closest. She said not to worry about it, that she would match the strap based on the photos I sent her. So I ordered the strap and waited.

It arrived about a week or so later and I was so excited and impressed with the quality (the aroma alone when I opened the box was intoxicating!). I hooked the strap onto the bag and started to walk towards the mirror when the strap fell off the bag :frown: I was thinking, "Oh no!" When I went to reattach it, I realized why that happened -- the hardware was too small for the O-ring on the Bbag. In my excitement, I hadn't even realized that the clasp didn't fully close when I attached it. Disappointed, I reached out to the seller and explained what happened and requested a return and asked her if she had different hardware. She replied "Not to worry" she'd make me a new one -- and she did and its perfect!

Here is the True Red First with its new "Swift Leather Shoulder Strap"

When the strap arrived and the clasp was too small (and before I heard back from the seller), I went in search of a different strap and came across the Etsy page of MauttoAccessories, who is in the US. It looks like a few other tPFers have ordered straps from her in the past, but I couldn't find anyone in the Balenciaga forum that did. She uses cowhide leather and offers various lengths and types of hardware (colors & sizes). She doesn't customize the color (at least I don't think she does), but her red looked very close to the 04 True Red, so I went ahead and ordered one.

It also arrived very quickly, but when it got here I realized her measurements included the hardware, not just the strap, so a 20 inch strap was only actually 15 inches. She said I could return it and pay her $5 more for a 25 in strap, but I had already heard back from the seller in China, so I decided to just keep the shorter one and now I have two straps in two different lengths.

I do think the color of the cowhide strap is actually a better match than the swift leather strap. Its almost the exact same color as the trim at the top edge of the bag.

Very nice color match and customer service! What width did you get this strap in?
I know. I was really impressed! I was surprised to see that no one at tPF seems to know about her (I promised her I'd share her info with the girls in the Hermes forum)
I used this as my starting point and in the Notes, I added this customization: 25 mm (2.5 cm) wide and 60 cm long with silver HW to match a "True Red" Balenciaga bag

I made the mistake of not noting the clasp size tho, so now I know to add the 6mm opening as well

I believe this seller may have been known as “HandCobbler” before on Etsy. I don’t know the reason behind it but her Etsy accounts are shut off every few months/year and then she rebrands under a new Etsy account. The styles/patterns/colors of straps she sells always look the same as she move from Etsy account to account. She is wonderful and I buy all my H straps from her.

Oh wow -- thats interesting
I wonder if maybe its because of a copyright/trademark issue with Hermes. Maybe they threaten to shut her down for using the official names Hermes uses to refer to styles and leather. I mean she's not doing anything wrong or trying to say the straps are something they're not, but I could see them doing this.

I had asked her if she belonged to tPF and she said she did not, but asked if I'd recommend her shop

I actually see an announcement she posted on 7/5 where she refers to someone by the name of Irene and another shop thats been closed

Yes. Irene is the name of the owner of HandCobbler and a number of the prior shops.

I had a similar experience as yours with HandCobbler, where they make a handbag strap for me without the customization I had specified and they quickly made and shipped a free replacement. Glad they are still on Etsy under a new name.

@earswithfeet -- can you add to this thread sharing some of your strap resources?
You always seen to find fun ones!
Sure!
I prefer colorful ones instead of leather. So far I got pretty lucky and found some nicely matching straps.
I shop them on shein.com (el cheapo, but good quality) and from a German company "Eazy Case". You can find them on amazon, but I don't know if they ship internationally.
I don't have a particular link, but here are some I purchased.
From Eazy Case

Perfect width for Firsts, not too wide. But they also look great on Cities.

Random finds on shein. Don't have them yet, but for around 3 bucks each you can't go wrong. Lol. Bought them for my 04 Black City. They're wider than the ones above.

It's hard to find ones with matching hardware, but I don’t mind that it’s gold/silver and not brass.

would love to see a photo when you get it!
I really like it and opted for the #14 brushed gold in the 30” length (link below). I guess I could have gone with the antique brass finish, but I preferred the closure of the gold. The previous strap I was using was an adjustable crossbody and seemed too long at times…this one is just right. Thanks again for the suggestion!

the strap looks great! The brushed gold compliments the aged brass nicely.
Glad you found the length you needed, happy to help!
