Hello Chanel lovers! Does anyone have a good way to store your Chanel/luxury bag collection safely and out of view? I currently have them displayed in the IKEA billy bookcase with glass doors in the bedroom. They are beautiful to look at but I prefer to have them not so visible and maybe locked as well. I do not want them in the walk in closet since the closet is attached to the master bathroom. I was looking for some kind of bookcase/wardrobe with wooden doors that comes with a lock or just be able to install a lock. I store them completely out of sight when traveling. However, on a day to day basis, I prefer them to be not so visible when I go to work or when people are over. Thank you!

Apologies for the question, but if your bags in the bedroom, when people are over do they go to your bedroom?
No one goes into our bedroom when people are over.

Since you don't want them in the closet (which was my first thought): I think you pretty much answered your own question, which would be to no longer have glass doors and have solid opaque doors maybe with a lock.
(I eventually plan to move everything to the closet and put a lock on the closet door.)

Alyssa Lenore is a youtuber who used to have her bags out on display in her home office: https://www.alyssalenore.com/interiors/my-cloffice
But she has since did a bit of an update and changed to completed covered: https://www.alyssalenore.com/interiors/cloffice-update

Maybe a built-in wardrobe with covered doors in your home office if you have one?

Sorry if that wasn't very helpful. Hard to think of other options.

Not sure what kind of budget you're looking at for this, but if you're looking to go lower cost, try thrift stores. I don't know where you are located, but if you have Habitat for Humanity ReStore near you, they often have amazing pieces of furniture at super reasonable prices. I have found so many amazing solid wood pieces of the most amazing quality there. You might be able to find something that works and just add a lock.

Speaking of adding a lock, would you be able to put one of those decorative films made for windows, on the glass of your current shelf and add a lock? That would probably be the easiest and least expensive option. They make all kinds of colors from simple frosted to patterns. There are also varying levels of opacity from nearly see-through to mostly opaque. Here are some screenshots of a few different styles/colors on windows, but it is easily applied to any glass (such as your bookcase). I have this on my back door and it is very durable. As long as you don't pick at it, it never falls off but at the same time, when/if you want to remove it, it comes off very easily. It does not cause permanent damage.

Thank you for your thoughts. People don’t normally go into my bedroom, but even if my mother in law visits or sometimes some of my friends follow me to my room. Kind of weird. Also, if there is ever a break in, I don’t want the bags to be so visible. Hope and pray that will never happen. We do have an home alarm system but I don’t want anyone to grab my bags and run. If they are at least not readily visible and locked, then the chance of anyone finding them so quickly will be low. I will definitely check out the videos you’ve mentioned. Thank you so much!

Those are beautiful. That would be another option. Thank you for sharing. I will look into them. I think I do prefer a nice wooden wardrobe that locks that is not as easy to see and break in case of the worst scenario. What do you guys do when traveling? Do you keep your bags in a safe in the house?

What about roll out under bed storage?

I don't hide mine oarlock mine up, but we are well equipped with cameras and an alarm. I like mine in my closet for getting dressed

Thanks for the idea about the under the bed storage, but I prefer them to be in a shelf. I do enjoy them on display but I do worry about security. Perhaps, I should just upgrade our security system. We have a main alarm and a few cameras just on the outside but not inside the house. My husband thinks people can hack into people's security cameras, so having cameras inside the house would be risky. I actually like Alyssa Lenore's built in wardrobe with covered doors that was mentioned earlier. I might look into something like that.

We have 16 cameras and use our alarm; we were robbed last March so I understand concerns. An armoire that locks could work, but would take up a lot of room. Take pics and keep insurance up to date!
OMG, I am so sorry! Hope everyone was okay! The most important thing is our health and safety above material things. Material things can always be replaced but hearing about people getting robbed is so awful. Hope things are okay now. I will probably need to look into better security for our house as well.

It's actually really difficult to store your Chanel bags out of view because leather goods need air and they need to breathe. So in dust bag with the top open.

I have a walk-in closet. So I can just lock the closet.

Perhaps you can get cabinets with opaque doors. Close the door when you're out and open the door when you're in the house.

Agreed. If stored in cabinets the doors need to be opened regularly to provide proper ventilation.

I lock my closet when out of town and we have an alarm. But I keep the bags in built-in cabinets in the closet (with opaque doors) and they get pretty regular airflow, albeit briefly when I open and close the doors.
A nosy person could go in and open the doors… but they’re the ones who are creeps :)

I agree with you, I don't like them on display because you never know who has the wrong intentions. I would suggest getting a small accent cabinet that you can also use in your room. I don't know where you live, but you can easily find really affordable ones in stores like HomeGoods, Wayfair, etc. Take the bags out to air though!

We were lucky, they came in while we were about 2 mi away at dinner. I can replace everything except the sentimental jewelry passed down in my family, luckily we were very well insured, but it still hurts. Insurance helped to beef up our security system, I can't sing AIG's praises enough. I highly recommend adding cameras and actually using the alarm!
