I used the setting as a bargaining chip in buying my stone. He ended up throughing in the setting. It's white gold with three diamonds on each side. I think they were asking around $800 for the setting and I looked at him like "you've got to be joking" and said.."you'll throw that in, right?" and he did.
I personally would never in an e-ring spend more for the setting than the center stone. I'd rather have a bigger/better center stone in that case. There are exceptions though I suppose..for really elaborate sparkly settings.
