Hello Everyone!

I'm getting hitched this July, but we can't afford the really nice wedding bands we like at the moment...so, we were thinking of getting starter wedding rings until we can upgrade later.

DF is a typical guy and pretty much indifferent to the material/style of the ring. I'm not too worried about him :)

As for myself, this is a real challenge! I was thinking of getting a stylish and inexpensive wedding band that I can wear for now and then upgrade to the "real" wedding band later. At that point, I can switch the starter ring to my right hand and wear it as a fashion ring.

So, I was wondering if any of you have any suggestions in terms of styles and metals that I can look into...looking forward to your responses!

I found a wonderful seller on Etsy. She makes the most beautiful, handmade jewelry and she has a wedding set.
I'm actually getting it for Mother's Day to wear on my right hand--it's so cool!
Her name is Justine and she is super nice. She is really flexible and will work w/ you and change metals or stones if need be.

i would get a plain gold band ot wear w ur ering now and then u always have that later when u need something to wear if ur doing somethinhg messy or to the gym etc. i wear a plain band when im around the house usually and only diamonds when i go out

Mine is a thin, delicate half eternity. Sometimes I stack them with a titanium band (like hubby's - or maybe your hubby would like stainless steel?) when I'm not wearing my engagement ring with it.

the last picture is the eternity band with a sterling silver thin rolling ring.

^^^ that pairing with the thick titanium band looks great.

op, maybe you could find the style you eventually want to get, and pick out a similar set in cz? That way when you switch there won't be much of a difference.

You can find nice 14k gold wedding bands at most jewelry stores for very reasonable prices. Also, if you think that you might want to change bands later, maybe a simple band would be ideal because you can then use it as a stacking ring.

I was married with 3 rings--my promise band which is a wedding band with three small stones set in it, a plain band, and a diamond band. I consider the Promise Band my "real" wedding ring. My diamond band had to be replaced so there's no longer much real sentiment to it, but the other two are INCREDIBLY special, especially the promise band. I don't wear them all together, I usually do my e-ring with the diamond band OR the promise band and plain band. But I have them all and that's how I do it. You can start off with a plain band in the metal to match your e-ring, then get a band later, for an anniversary, that is what you want. But you'll always have your "real" band you were married with. And you maybe can have them melted down to form your new bands that way your same metal that was "blessed" is still there.

I would just buy a CZ now, whatever style and size you like. I have seen CZ's sold as wedding sets with the engagement ring and wedding band together. Since you aren't planning for this to be your ring forever, you don't want to invest even a few hundred in a ring you won't wear for long. You really don't get anything reselling jewelry, especially the lower quality stuff. You could also go with a plain band if that is more your style. I know for me though, I would not be happy with that and would not wear it.

Wow everyone, thanks for your wonderful ideas!! It's been a while since I've posted on TPF, and it's so nice to come back to the supportive atmosphere here :)

Gabz- I was actually thinking of getting a plain yellow gold band that I can wear as an anywhere wedding ring! Most of my jewelry is silver, so I'm not used to wearing yellow gold, but I really like the look of it. Perhaps it will just take some getting used to. Perhaps I can also look into white gold as well, since I'm used to wearing white metals.

Tracy- I checked out Etsy today, and they have some really lovely and unique rings! I love the organic look of singleBbeautiful's collection, plus they are totally wearable on the right hand if I decide to upgrade. I will definitely look into it!

divadivine682- My budget is around $500...

kmcq- Love the half eternity band idea, and your rings are lovely. Don't know if that's in my budget, but I will definitely do more research :)

ame- I love the story behind your 3 rings!! It's true, it's not what the ring is made of that makes it special, but the sentiment and symbolism behind it.

Who knows, maybe I will fall in love with my starter ring and end up not upgrading after all :p

I got a plain pipe cut platinum band as a starter wedding ring, though my husband's plan is to upgrade my ring on our anniversary to a diamond ring.

We honeymooned in Europe, and we paid for our wedding by ourselves, plus we were moving across the country right after the honeymoon. So we decided to go with a temporary band for me to save some money.

As a starer band, I find it very nice. I would recommend something similar, and you can find them in white gold, silver, or titanium; not sure which metal you prefer :)
